I would be more impressed if they kept if for next year. It would also be nice to have around 10 million to do some things during the season if we needed to.

I think they will carry most of it over. If we make any moves, they won't be very big.

I may be off here, but maybe it's because they are paying qb watson only 1M this year trying to get around his suspension $ penalty? They'll need that cap next year when he gets his real $.
I made that known to John813 in an earler response.
His individual cap hit for 2022 is the $1 million salary + $9 million of his overall signing bonus = $10 million total.

It’s actually worse because the Browns need their cap space to cover next year (unless Watson is suspended for a year) so they basically have nothing.

Watson’s contract covers suspensions, so he gets paid in full regardless

If you get suspended for a full year, the contract tolls, so they would only have to pay him 1m next year (aka his salary this year) as his contract would effectively still be at year 1 thereby helping them dodge a 45m cap hit.

If they're trying to say that with that much cap space they couldn't find one player that could upgrade the roster and help them win some games, they need to get a new director of player personnel.

Ah I gotcha. Yeah he just doesn’t lose any guarantees as a normal player would if they got suspended

It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Two teams could have the same amount of cap space in 2022 but 1 team might have pushed way more cap dollars into future years.

Teams manage the cap based on a multi-year basis.
- Do you spend all of you money each year or do you save some of it for the future?
