A few thoughts:
1) Pretty obvious he intended to deal the coke to NFL players. That was his market for weed, which he supposedly sold at cost. He didn't have a network in place to move the stuff anywhere else.
2) The second case against him seems flimsy to me. I know crooks are often convicted based on the testimony of other crooks, but it's hard for me to believe he pursued the coke trade after getting busted in his first attempt to acquire the stuff. And I do believe that was his first attempt--he sounded clueless in the government's transcript. I would like to see evidence of him actually dealing cocaine.
3) He isn't a kingpin. Anyone who uses that word didn't read the article. As drug dealers go, he was a clown. A true idiot in every sense of the word.
4) Michael Franzese was a mob boss in the Columbo crime family; he made a deal where in the end I think he served maybe 6-7 years in prison. Now he gets to go around the country talking about. Don't get me wrong--I like Franzese. He has since reformed his life in a very positive manner. However, his story is one of many that make it pretty clear that it's not the severity of your crimes but how well you play this joke we call a legal system.
5) Thank your lucky stars he never dealt in 'roids. We don't even want to know where that could have led. I don't think the league will show any interest in weed.
