I think it will be sooner than that personally. I am as high on him as anyone and he is actually further along than i thought he would be.

As i have been crowing....we stole this guy!
I would love it!

He's not going to have a Micah Impact (but who does?), but I think by the middle of Year 2 he's going to be someone we are all going to be very happy with.
Barring injury, he's definitely going to show flashes this year. Maybe quite a few of them.
  • I think he could have an impact from day 1.
    • Probably in a pass rush specialist role.
    • It takes longer for rookies to learn other skills...
      • When to play run vs pass and how to defend read-option type plays.
  • His physical ability if freakish.
    • How many defensive players that run a 4.4 forty can bull rush a 320 pound OT straight back to the QB?
    • Parsons can get under the pads of OLinemen and jack them up with power, but I don't think he can push them 5 yards straight backwards.
    • JPP comes to mind as one of the top power edge rushers in the past decade, but he was a 4.8 forty guy pre-draft.
  • It's going to be somewhat of a competition between SW and Dante Fowler.
    • Fowler is an elite edge rusher when healthy.
      • He had 11.5 sacks the last time he was fully healthy for a season.
      • His issue has been run defense and staying healthy.
      • He didn't miss a huge number of games in 2020 & 2021, but...
      • His performance when playing though an injury was drastically reduced.
    • Dan Quinn is already playing SW inside on 3rd an medium/long type situations.
      • That will allow him and Fowler to be on the field together.

I can definitely see Quinn running a type of front (on third and long) where Lawrence and Sam kick inside to 3-tech and the two ends are Micah at LDE and Fowler at RDE. That would provide a whole lot of athleticism getting after the QB.

Quinn could also use a variation of the “Bear Front. Move D-Law to 3T, have Odighizuwa at the other 3T and play Williams at LDE. Then, you could drop Parsons down to be the 5th rusher, either from the 9 (outside of Williams in this instance) or through the A-gap. In this way you could overload a side with Parsons, Williams, Lawrence all side-by-side with Micah off the edge. Or with Williams, Lawrence, Parsons, if you send him through the A-gap.

On either of those, you would have Fowler off the opposite edge in a 1-on-1 with Odighizuwa providing a push up the middle.

Or you could do a regular Bear front (Double Eagle) where you have Gallimore as a NT with Lawrence and Odighizuwa as the 3T’s. Then have Parsons and Fowler at SAM and LEO, off the edge. This is one of the 34 “look” fronts and could be done in more cases than just 3rd and very long.

Any of those could come into play when you really want to bring heat to the QB.

There are just so many ways that Quinn can use all of these rushers. It is really exciting to think about I can’t wait to see it.

So, give Williams an opportunity before passing judgment. See how it works.
So, don't crown him before seeing what he can actually do. I hope he's as good as you claim he's going to be, but Parsons has shown himself so far to be a generational type player. Saying Williams is going to be better than him before he's even played one NFL snap is going beyond hyperbole, and right into dreamland.

I made that statement to break up the Parsons love fest. You are definitely correct, I have no idea of his production and neither do those who claim he can't be as good.

I don't think anyone has said he can't be as good, just that it's too soon to tell, and considering how good Micah is, the prospect seems pretty unlikely. Just how lucky could this team get?

I'll be happy if he's just a very solid player.
