Sam Williams has upside

The normal guideline though is you cannot pick up a player and then throw them to the ground, which is what he did.

If he had just spun him and slammed him it would have been fine, but he picked him up off the ground before slamming him down and I was really surprised they did not throw a flag on him.
Easy for you to say, your not having roid rage. :D

It's a small video, but here's a good look at it in real-time.

It is good he did not land on top of him so that may have factored into the no-flag decision, but the initial picking the player up before slamming him down is usually enough to cause a flag.

I remember him picking him up and throwing him down. It was fortunate he didn't land him on his head, shoulders, or back. Definitely needs to be more careful...or should I say, more thoughtful?

Party pooper. Bench urself.
Agreed. Quinn needs to harness this dude pre-game. Keep the edge, don't go over it. I remember Dez being like that as a rookie.
Given how many holding non-calls other teams get against the Cowboys, I am glad he was not penalized, but I am concerned that if he continues doing it then it may hurt the team at the wrong time.

Hell no, it was a great no call, maybe the refs are starting to hear Aikmans comments about taking off the dresses.
Nobody got hurt, Armstrong slammed him appropriately to the ground ... I couldnt believe the flags didnt fly, and it made my day.

Jeez, I didnt know Williams ran a 4.4 at the combine. If he develops some pass rush "go-to" moves with his athleticism and intensity, he will be dangerous.

Between Williams and Parsons, we got 2 pass rushers/Defensive front 7 that have faster forty times than nearly all the receivers on the roster.

Armstrong? We were talking about Sam Williams.

We found DLaws replacement, and he will be better than DLaw. DLaw wasn’t even I blip his rookie year and Sam’s snaps were extremely limited early this season….get excited!!

Its nice seeing a defense coming together, its a house party taking place this season and all are invited.
Have guests waiting at the door just trying to get in, here is the list of VIPs ...

Cox

How do you think Sam would look if he were the only real defensive threat?

The time for this defense is now. So many of these young guys will require big contracts in the coming seasons, we may have 2 or 3 seasons at most to take advantage.

Sam is just getting started. He's coming on like gangbusters and will only get better. He's a winner! :flagwave:

Give the youngster reps and he'll make us proud. The talent's there in spades! Let that doggie loose. ;)

I like that he is making plays against the run as well as rushing the passer. He is developing quickly and seems to be a more complete DE than Armstrong. Let's hope he continues to show progress.

Like everyone else, I think he does need to watch the rough stuff. That body slam looked like a penalty although I cannot find the rule in the rulebook that covers it. I found the rule that says you cannot body slam a Quarterback, but I don't see about other runners. Maybe I missed it.

Update: Actually it is not specifically mentioned but two sentences appear to cover it:

1) Note: When in question about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactics, the covering official(s) should always call unnecessary roughness.

2) A runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped. (is defenseless)
