When you're talent is limited, you have to give up something. Quinn sacrificed run defense for pass rush and turnovers. I expect Zimmer to do the opposite. Despite what we have at DT, he'll make run defense a focus even if it costs us pressure/sacks and turnovers.

I really think Quinn gets more blame than he deserves. He's trying to scheme around having so-so NTs and 3-techs. And in the playoff game, he tried to scheme around Gilmore playing hurt. Overall, he did a pretty good job of it, but the talent gaps were going to show up against the better teams.

Yeah I was already expecting the sacks and turnovers to go down. But the run defense could be better.

I think besides losing a few more games this year, the wins vs lower caliber teams will probably be closer games.

I would think so. I'm not sure we'll lose too many more because of the number of lower-caliber teams. I could see us slipping behind Philly, though, if they can get that team back together under new coordinators. The Eagles were the better team early on and then just fell apart. I don't think Hurts is a great QB, but as we've seen, he's good enough to get to a Super Bowl with in the right circumstances. I think the same of Dak, but I think he's at least a little better than Hurts. Trouble is, we're never going to have the team that Philly built around its QB when it made the Super Bowl.

In Washington, he's got two big ol' DL in Allen and Payne, and the Commanders went out and brought him a bevy of linebackers to play behind them. In Dallas, after the LVE injury, his best option was playing a safety at linebacker because he didn't have much quality to work with. They tried to bring in Shaq Leonard, but the Joneses were too cheap in FA to even outbid the Eagles for him (and it appears based on how he played that turned out to be a good thing).

I hope Sam Williams makes the most of his chances to turn his career around this season. It doesn't take a genius to play DE -- never has!

Kinda glad they adopted a different defense nickname and don't choose to sully and disrespect the memory of those great past defenses. This soft, frontrunner defense haven't earned that nickname.

The best are given by coaches, sports writers, and maybe teammates. Like “Doomsday” which came from Dallas sports writer Gary Cartwright back in the mid-60s saying it would be Doomsday before any team could score on that defense. That nicknamed was earned.

But players giving themselves nicknames…please. Maybe “Hot Boyz” fits. These guys still need to earn their man cards.

It will be interesting to see if Quinn keeps him. But again, Quinn is not going to keep a lot of fat men who can't crash the pocket. It's not his MO. His MO is getting after the passer. The year, he cut Ridgeway, Ridgeway had not shown much and we didn't cut him initially, we kept him until we needed his roster spot.

Zimmer is going to be much more likely to keep our late-round NT this year because of the emphasis he puts on run-stopping. I'll be very surprised, though, if we end up with as many sacks and turnovers as we did under Quinn. Like I said, every coach has his priorities because he has to play with what he got. Quinn wanted to develop Mazi's pass rush so that he could be a pass rusher as well as a run stopper. Zimmer will be happy if he's just a very good run stopper.
