Samuel Wants Out Of New England

I don't think so unless like previously stated he has a breakout year. I'd be happy if he just had 6 interceptions this year...

INTs make him look good to everyone. Being a shutdown cornor makes him look good to team scouts. INTs arn't the be all end all in being a CB in the NFL. INT come in five fashions.

  1. Forced (pressure) bad throws
  2. Lack of focus from the QB
  3. Tipped passes
  4. Bad mechanics in throwing motion
  5. Disguised coverage

#5 is something Ty Law and Deion Sanders excel at. Newman doesn't. On the other hand, Newman is a superior shutdown cornor than Ty Law. (Sanders was a freak of nature)

If we are talking one play to end the season as a winner or failure. I would take Newman today over Ty Law in his prime. Go look at Newman's pass defenses compared to Ty Law over their career. In four years Newman has double digit pass defense four times. Out of twelve years, Law has only two years of double digit pass defense.

Defensive cornors arn't all about INTs, they are about defense.

That and he wasn't exactly dominant. He made plays this past year for certain but that was the by-product of chasing the money and New England's system. They actually have started Troy Brown and been successful, so I don't see where can reasonably say he stands out.

He's the cornerback version of Deion Branch. A player that thinks more of himself than he is worth and New England isn't falling for it.

The Patriots did not win three Super Bowls in the last decade by being stupid. They could draft another part and plug him into their machine and be just fine.

:hammer:

I love the players bluff that the GM's no will never happen I will hold out all year :laugh2:

That is the stupidest statement any player can say because no they will not.

A. They have to be on the roster by a certain date to have it count as a good year in football (see Randall Godfrey who played 1/2 a year in Dallas)

B. He is due like 7 or more million as a Franchise guy when those paychecks stop coming they crawl back

C. People that sit out a whole year not injured for some reason tend to decline and drop there value

I call his bluff now he is a liar

I'd give New England our 1st for him if theyd do it.
Since he was franchised, it would take 2 #1's but they may take less in an actual trade. Samuel is a very good but he isn't worth that price and honestly I wouldn't give NE #22 for him.

they would ask for a 1st and a 3rd

I dunno, I think Samuel is pretty darn good. Which other young corners in the game would you want instead? He makes plays on the ball, which all the Newman bashers should love.

It's easy to say that you just draft a corner early, especially this time of year. But there's absolutely no guarantee you're not getting a Batman Carroll or Joey Thomas with that pick.

We should of made a play for Dre Bly.

Julius Jones, and the same picks Denver gave up. Im sure Julius' value is higher than Tatum Bells.

Bly and Newman together would of been insane.

Samual isn't going anywhere, he can sit out if he wants which I doubt seriously because he'll be letting 9 million go down the drain. I think he'll miss some training camp time but that's about it...

Sorry Theogt, the guy doesn't deserve top dollar. You can have him for a first round draft pick.

I just hope BB doesn't give into this. I know defense is always foremost on his mind.

Not worth top dollar, but at the same time worth a first rounder thus giving the Pats 3 first round draft picks to try to get the ship right with that franchise.

And your post is ...well stupid. Guys dont have to sit out the entire season.

How many games did Porter sit out last year ? You know the guy from Oakland ?

I remember this guy named Smith that played RB for the Cowboys that sat out... What ever happened with that situation ?

Call his bluff sure why not.

Samuel is well worth the 22nd pick in the draft.

Not when you have to sign him to a $80 million contract to get him to sign. He wants Clements money.

IMO, there would have to be a large, gaping hole at cornerback to warrant the surrender of two first-round picks two straight years. Newman and Henry are solid starters. The only real negative there is Henry propensity for suffering a significant injury every season. Glenn provides quality depth. His only drawback could be attributed to his age. There are question marks at the position to be sure, but there isn't an enormous one.

Did you read my post ? Obviously not; If you did I said he would miss some time but he will not sit out a whole year period ? He has to be on the roster by a certain game to get a credit for a good NFL year which effects his status in the league when it comes to years of service.

So any player that says he will sit out all year is an idiot; because they will not and a guy is going to give up 9 mil yea right:lmao:

(The exceptions are injuries; suspensions; retired)

If he starts crying and saying that $458K a game won't feed his family, I will personally fly up to New England and shoot him myself.

i'll let you use my pistol
