Must admit I've very concerned about our defense. Either we don't have good enough players to correctly play the 3-4 defense, they just are smart enough to grasp what they supposed to do or coaches incapable of coming up with a good game plan. But we've spent an awfully lot of draft picks and signed defensive FAs for our defense to perform as it has. We should generate more QB pressure but of course first we got to fix our FS position, outside containment against the run/pass and whatever.

I'm inclined to believe that the Dallas front seven (with the exception of Ware) is not as good as some would believe. They're good but not dominating good. I also believe that coaching doesn't maximize the talent that IS there. Bill Parcells would rather beat a team with a base scheme. The fans want something more diverse, complicated, exotic. It's been said that Parcells doesn't trust them to try anything more exotic because they don't execute in the base scheme. Of course, it's a catch-22 situation here. If they DO execute in the base scheme, Parcells wouldn't want to try anything fancy anyway since he believes the base works. If they DO fail in the base scheme, then Parcells feels the players can't be trusted to do anything different/exotic.

...was assembled to be physically dominating. They were to be a defence that would bring it to you on every play and beat you down.

I don't think that is happening. I don't blame BP for harping on some of these guys. At some point you can't rely on a scheme and sometimes you have to physically overpower the man and make a play.

Look at what Coleman did to our line in the first half of the game? He was disruptive and he was getting a push on our line on a consistent basis. We have no pressure from the middle of our defensive line because our guys flanking Ferguson cannot beat their one on one assignments.

But in reality, the front 3 doesn't really have to create pressure. They're there to hold their ground and take up blockers. (though it WOULD be nice if they broke through once in awhile). The 4th(and 5th) guys are the keys to creating pressure. If that isn't working, they should try to disguise them to confuse the offense. Some of those stunts that San Diego was running were beautiful to watch. Dallas doesn't really do anything fancy with their blitzes and being so careful, all they do is try to fill lanes when they rush. It makes it easier for the O-line to pick them up...

SD is good, but they were playing against second string tackles.

KC's line isn't very good anymore. Their tackles suck, Shields is a shadow of his former self, and Wiegman is having a poor year. Brian Waters is the only all-pro caliber player on the line. And Larry Johnson was terrible at picking up the blitzes tonight.

They stunted their lbers a bunch of times and got great pressure doing that. I don't think we have stunted anyone much less the lbers to get pressure.

Watching other teams yesterday bring pressure on a consistent basis just reinforces my burning desire to see Zimmer gone. When other teams blitz the players actually attempt to avoid the blockers, what is up with that? That can't be right, they are supposed to rush 8 guys into 5 blockers to make sure that no one gets away right?

If it were just one game or one season I could understand but it has been this way since Campo took over as the DC in 1995 (the last year we had a passrush) and we continue to play the same way game after game. 11 years of this crap folks! When will Jerry/Bill get a clue and scrap the "bend-but-don't-break" defense of Dave Campo? It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.

Stupid Zimrod! :bang2:

If we do not bring a LBer from somewhere on nearly every play....then the 3-4 is useless. Why would we switch to a 3-4 that basically and make it a coverage scheme...when a LBer cannot cover an extra WR better than a DB could? I was convinced this was our scheme for the forseeable future...but HOPEFULLY Jerry will not allow Bill to draft a LBer with a 1st day pick this year AND that could be a sign that Jerry is switching back to a 4-3 ONCE Bill leaves.

We have all the pieces to run a 4-3. James and Adoyle are inside guys. Carpenter can play either inside or out in a 4-3. Burnett would be a bigger Dexter Coakley with the additonal ability to blitz. And we have more than enough DL who are also versatile.

I am sick of and tired of defense on the 1st day. Especially when you consider how we play on defense. A big but don't break philosphy...read and react....keep everything in front of you...these are passive philosophies that do not require top notch talent....we can play that with 4th rounder and street free agent...so NO MORE 1st DAY PICK ON DEFENSE

Fix the offensive line AND get some playmaker at WR because Owens is more than likely gone AND Glenn has 1 MAYBE 2 years left. And before all of you Owens apologist come jumping to his defense let me just say...if a guy who pretty much was almost blackballed from the NFL cannot be on his best behaviour in year 1 of a salvaged career...and he goes mostly unchecked by Parcells (which is the right strategy in my opinion)...then he will completely boil over next year. He cannot be salvaged....he is a disturbed individual...he needs to take up golf or tennis where his single mind MO can thrive

Who was it that was pressuring Vick on Ware's interception? I think you need to look at the tape again.

David.
