The sale of Coca-Cola is now outlawed at San Francisco City Hall. That means if you need to wash down that tofu turkey dog, you’ll need to order a bottle of soy milk.

Mayor Gavin Newsome has issued an executive order banning Coke, Pepsi and Fanta Orange from vending machines on city property. The directive also includes non-diet sodas, sports drinks and artificially sweetened water.

That means you can no longer “Do the Dew” at City Hall. Dr. Pepper? Not welcome and neither is Mr. Pibb.

Even fruit juices have come under the mayor’s scrutiny. Juices must be made from 100 percent juice with no added sweeteners.

So what’s a thirsty San Franciscan supposed to drink?

Well, according to the mayor, the city’s vending machines will be stocked with a wide variety of “healthy” alternatives. Imagine nursing a glass of rice milk or perhaps soy milk on a warm, sunny day. The machines will also be stocked with water — provided it meets fat and sugar content requirements.

I expect this to be over-turned. Americans have the freedom of choice, not freedom to be told what they can and can't have to drink.

Evidently this is only vending machines on city property. I still think it is stupid but not sure what can be done to change it.

Soooooo.... is this just in city hall or all of San Francisco?

Cause the first sentence clearly says City Hall and then the rest of the article makes it seem like they banned it from the entire city.

I did not change anything. It says 1st line City Hall it then says all city property. I saw nothing in the article saying it was the entire city of San Fran nor a suggestion that is was all of San Fran.

I didn't say you changed anything. I was referring to your post which I thought was the "article" itself.

No cursed, evil Fanta will be tolerated! But Dr. Pepper is apparently OK.

The Dr. is not welcome either. If it contains sweeteners it is a no no. Big Mother is Watching you. :laugh2:

I'm okay with that. They end up in landfills within 48 hours of purchasing the Happy Meal anyhow.

This reminds me of a line from the movie Arthur.

Susan: "A real woman could stop you from drinking".
Arthur: "It'd have to be a real BIG woman!"

I was wondering the same.

Looks like people will just have to bring a soda to city hall.

Rather pointless to ban the sale of soda in such a small area.
