Robbing somebody of a game, is saying that somebody was down when the ball was fumbled, when it is cleary shown that the person in question fumbled the ball before his knee touched the ground. What's robbing somebody of game, is when somebody is mounting the come back playing sound football, and the refs dont acknowldge the other teams mistake.

It is not the refs fault that jackson stuck his arm straight out and hit the CB rigt in front of the ref.

Its not the refs fault that that other guy dropped a pass in the endzone.

Its not the refs fault that Stevens was dropping passes. (at one time he has 4 drops and 1 catch)

Its not the refs that let Big Ben get out of the pocket stop, wait anf wait and then heave a ball downfield, and complete a pass on 3 and mile.

It's not the refs fault that Willie Parker opened the second half with a 75 yard run for TD because boulware got sucked to far in.

Its not the refs fault that Seattle threw the INT on key drive when the seahawks were driving.

Did the refs make some controversial calls...yes, was their game perfect no. But seattle was making to many dumb mistakes, for yall to sit here and say the refs cheated. Had seattle got those 14 points in the first quarter, the game would have been alot closer. The refrees cant do everything.

I totally agree. Most bias officiating that I have ever seen.
The mvp for the steelers were the officials.

:bang2:

I must say Seattle Seahawks was cheated out of a superbowl victory, refferees like I said earlier this season is getting paid under the table...why? because Jerome Bettis is retiring, and what's going on? he at home detroit the perfect place to retire and just like a cheap win with Darrell Green against the Cowboys is the samething here no different.....

Refferees should be fired... We as fans should say something in spite of this...poor referring... and just think that they started cheating earlier this season against the Cowboys in the first meeting against the Commanders... They called flozzell for holding....

I say somebody needs to get in contact with the NFL and spread the email address to get in contact with over the internet and watch how many bad reactions they will get off of the referees...

I think the referees should be fired just to make a example ... Paul Taligubue thinks these referees is so innocent... On that play from Rothlisberger to Hanes Ward, I seen some holding going on... Flagrant holding and no referee bother by calling the call... same thing on the Randle El play holding... same thing on the Willie Parker... They cheated all through the superbowl...

1. the PI on Jackson that was not
2. the spot on Strong's catch in the 2nd quarter on 3rd down that was short by 3 inches
3. the Roeth. td
4. the holding call on the completion to stevens to the 1.
5. when roeth. ran for the 1st down when pitt was trying to melt the clock, you could see the ref peaking at the first down marker while spotting the ball.

unbelievable!!!

something had to be going on.

Im with you 100% ... This was obvious that the referees was cheating...

I know. I felt like I was watching Super Bowl 13 all over again. The NFL loves the Steelers. They should not have 2 of the SB wins they have now. I can't wait for training camp!

Actually 3, don't forget SB X when they didn't have a single flag thrown against them. :lmao2:

This loss was well deserved because of bad play by the offense and terrible coaching :

Passing when they needed 6 inches for a first down on a 3rd down play with the best running back in the NFL - not to mention a strong FB. A QB sneak should have gotten it as well.

Running the ball with time running out before the half and then missing the FG.

And not going for it with 6 inches in the second half......

But I have to agree this was the worst officiated game I've seen in a Super Bowl. I can't believe the NFL picked these idiots for a game as big as this one was.

The play that really did it for me was the pass interference that wiped the touchdown out. He did push off, but well before he did the defensive back was tugging at his arm in plain sight of the end zone ref. Instead of being offsetting penalties it moved them back 10 yards.

The game offical was too close to the play.

His focus was too narrow to see the players hand fighting at that point.

Should have kept the flag in his pocket.

Sorry , didn't see this Thread earlier ...

Anyone remember my thread back on February 1, 2006 ...

Quote:
Taking into consideration post-regular season/pre-Superbowl, and pre-draft/off season ...thought we could spend some time pondering about needed changes in NFL policies, guidelines and procedures that frequently have an impact on the outcome of games.

For example, someone on one of the sites I've visited (could have been here; I've enjoyed so many intelligent discussions here ...then again, I've been badgered here also:rolleyes: ) ...mentioned something about creating a "Zebra" school for NFL Officials. The school would be sponsored by the NFL, ran by veteran NFL officials/NFLPA employees/former players; and produce full-time qualified NFL Officials (not part-time employees that have other unrelated jobs in the off-season). This initiative would enhance the quality of on-the-field decisions and greatly reduce "bad-calls." A full-time NFL official could yield multiple benefits.

If you watched the superbowl, you probably noticed that the head Zebra that Officiated the game (uncertain, believe Rafferty) was a retired Police officer and retired Fireman. Not blaming him because I realize that he must rely on the other field officials to make judgement calls and advise Him; coupled with the replay cameras to make final decisions.

Now admittedly, I didn't care who won ...But DAYAM! You've got to be kidding me ...I've got a huge TV; and I even could clearly see that "the football" that Ben Roethlisberger was carrying, did not repeat did not break the plain of the goal.

Also, the holding call on the Stevens' catch, the offensive pass interference on the touchdown, the Roslen touchdown; the blatant holding on his first down, and the blocking penalty on hasselback. the Seahawks got the "Royal Fickle Finger of Fate" ...and without vasiline!

This to me is a cryout demand to do something about the unjust penalty calls we see throughout the regular season, Into the playoffs, and straight into the Superbowl games. We need a professionalized team of Officals and a better mechanism to determine close plays! Look, I'm not saying that the Steelers didn't deserve to win ...but who knows the outcome if a few plays were called differently. Today I listened to an interview On ESPN ..."at least 7 bad calls are made during each regular season NFL game. These stats reflect that in some, not all cases, the officials are deciding the outcomes to pivitol games!

Like the offensive interference penalty in the end zone!!!

This game was BOGUS!!! The REFS aught to be FIRED!!!

Is the NFL now fixed? Was the fix in on the refs???

I did not agree with all the calls but no the NFL is not fixed or the refs.

And thru all that Seattle still had a chance to win the game but they throw a pick and let a team that has run trick plays all thru the playoffs to run a trick play for the go ahead touchdown, they should have taken care of there own business on the field.

This what I said...

Dear morning news Im a NFL fan that looked at the superbowl. I seen some things in the superbowl that I have been seeing all season. Joe Gibbs and Jim Hasslet is right about the referees they're getting worst. The call in the Inndanopolis game showed that. I have a theory that the refferees are either paid off or have some type of incentative under the table on most of these games or they're just at the age that they aren't active in the game anymore but something is really going on. You can go everywhere and ask non-pittsburgh steeler fans even on message boards, was the superbowl won fairly, they will tell you it wasn't, and it seems like the NFL commissioner does everything in his power to protect these refferees.

For example, the Ben Rothlisberger touchdown wasn't really a touchdown. Why? because before Ben Rothlisberger could cross the plain he fumbled the ball, notice on the play Jerome Bettis pushed the ball back into his arms just to make it look like a touchdown, and the refferees just didn't change it. That's the same way the refferees should have approached it when Troy Polomalu intercepted the ball and it was over turn in the Inndanopolis game.

Another play for example, was when the refferees called a pass-interference call on Darrell Jackson (82) for Seattle Seahawks when he got a touchdown. Now notice on the play the conerback for the opposing team Pittsburgh Steelers was putting his hands on Darrell Jackson.

Most of the time when Seattle got down field inside the 20 yard line in Pittsburgh territory, Seahawks was called for a holding penalty, which John Madden himself made a comment about that saying it wasn't holding on the play, a very questionable call on the refferee part. The superbowl this year was so uninteresting to watch because of all the cheating in the game by the refferees.

I think this should be a story, that should be on the news because the NFL is going too far with the flagrant calling for the favors against the underdog team. People have been talking about it all morning on every NFL team message board. I had a whole lot of polls stating was the refferees invovled in this game more than the Pittsburgh Steelers? and majority of the fans said yes. I think someone needs to say something, because the news media will not be fined for exploiting the refferees, only the NFL coaches will.

I'm not into conspiracy theories, but the officiating in the game was poor, and also happened to be one sided. The push off call was marginal (and game changing). The holding called when Seattle was driving (the pass was to the 3 yard line, IIRC) was non-existent (and game changing) and the call against Hassselbeck after the interception was incomprehensible (and drove nails into the coffin). I actually thought the TD call on Roethlisberger was correct so I won't add it to my list.

All in all a very poor performance by the officials. It looked biased whether it was or not. Here's one take on this story.

The real travesty here is that the NFL makes BILLIONS of dollars each year and they can't afford to hire full-time referees and have them trained appropriately.

I feel for these refs as they're accountants, brokers, etc... full time and have to work part-time as referees. Its a sham really. Give these guys decent salaries and better training and get rid of the ones who can't make the grade.

Its pitiful.

Baseball has full time guys but that does not stop them from blowing calls. It is going to happen in all sports it always has and always will.

Sorry I don't think the game was fixed or the refs where trying to hand the game to the steelers. Sea was very poor on converting 3rd down had a number of dropped passes that hurt them and then a very poor pass by Hasslebeck that was high and behing his WR that ended up being picked off. I do think there were some questionable calls in game I'll give you that.
