The Cowboys have restructured CB Orlando Scandrick's contract in order to save some space under the salary cap.
Scandrick only had a $2 million base salary, but Dallas is desperate for any room it can come up with. The Cowboys' slot corner between Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr, Scandrick graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 43-ranked cornerback in pass coverage last season. He'll return in the same role in 2013

@fishsports: Connor gone, Scandrick/Bernadeau re-done. Livings/Rat coming? Likely means Romo deal moving too slowly. #Cowboys @1053thefan

Its amazing how this team is still fighting to get under the cap.. these guys are restucturing to save the team a couple of 100,000 at a time. Does anybody else think theres a problem.. I could see if this team was a perenial playoff team.. It's hard to be optimistic these days..

The problem is that we need to extend Romo otherwise we are going to be right on the cap cusp . . . .

Anyone else think that Romo is saying, I'll wait to discuss my contract extension once FA and the Draft is over. Then, if and only then, if you have made an effort to shore up the o-line, I will discuss an extension...

We're trying to digest both Romo's huge number, and Spencer's huge number. This isn't really all that surprising.

It'd be nice, though, if one of those two deals were to get done. Or both.

I think yes, and no. He is gonna be 33, when the season starts, and the Boys can franchise him 2yrs in a row. Other than Oakland, who is gonna pay a QB big money at the age of 35?

Yhea. That's what we need. I'd settle for 1 right now.

No I don't think that is the case at all. I don't think Romo extending the contract has anything to do with what the Cowboys do on OL.

So, what do you think the hold up is? I would think that the Flacco deal would have commenced the negotiations, but it hasn't. I just wondering why they aren't discussing it right now....

I still can't get my hands around how a team could be desperate to get under salary cap who has been .500 for past two years. Are cowboys stock piling mediocrity?

Franchising a QB is the definition of cap hell and goes against everything Stephen Jones has been doing with contracts. They have to extend him to make it all work. Chopping Spencer's cap hit down would be nice too. Not sure what the hold up is.

Jerry likes to give out money when he shouldn't. Too loyal to average players.

Romo and his reps just found out that he can hold out for north of 18mil per year with maybe 50-55mil guaranteed. He knows he can get that on the open market and he is forcing the Boys to pay up, play out the existing contract or trade him on Draft Day....

While I understand your point of view, it is worth noting that the $5 million penalty is still being accounted for as well.

That's us in a nutshell.

Too scared to let players go that are good enough to breakeven in the NFL. Too fast to overpay those who are better than terrible.

I would hardly describe the overall talent of a lot of the Cowboys as mediocre. However, their record the past two years has been mediocre. That only leaves coaching since injuries aren't an excuse. Garrett has been mediocre at best, many times much closer to downright putrid.

I'm sure they're negotiating, we're just not hearing much about it. Just as I'm sure they're negotiating with Spencer and his agent. Just because we're not hearing anything doesn't mean nothing is going on.

They do tend to have a problem with overvaluing their own talent.
