while wondering whatever happened to the Dallas fan base.

This win was ugly and at times hard to watch. But it was a win on the road. And you take those without complaint. 3-3 is about where we should be given the schedule thus far. Given our injury situation we are fortunate to be at .500.

Dez is a man child in every way. I love the young man's desire and heart. I also thinks he sometimes needs a spanking.

I really hope Costa is okay. For all the hatred he has endured he may well be a top 5 OC when he actually plays. I watched him yesterday and he laid nasty blocks on folks.

This team needs to get some breaks.
And I don't mean the non-call of PI in the 4th quarter.
BTW, the announcers had just stated not 20 mins earlier that the officials were allowing hand-checking and letting them play and they excused the DB grabbing Dex's arm on a sure-fire TD. So let's stop calling it "great fortune". It was how the refs chose to call the game.

This team needs a break with health. They need to get Lissemore, Costa, Murray all back. They need to get Witten, Dez, Miles all healthy at once ... pretty please.

Garrett isn't an offensive genius. And that's okay so long as he realizes it and sticks to the script. Nothing crazy or over the top. Just stick to the tried and true method. I have no issues going conservative. Just be consistent with that plan and help the defense help you.

Pick your shots but don't lose games. Call plays that help Dez and Romo play smart, conservative football. You can't have a playcaller, QB and lead WR all wanting desperately to score a TD every play without getting into trouble.

Anthony Spencer: He is a good player and will be hard to replace but he really does lack that one extra step to be a sack guy. He played his butt off yesterday and still had less pass rush impact than either Ratliff (who occasionally beat 3 guys) and Ware.

This team needs to learn to win games and sometimes winning ugly is more important than rolling people. Figuring out how to win matters. Yesterday they won they could have lost and that is a step in the right direction.

Dallas is tied for 2nd in the NFCE now. I'll gladly take it. Also are undefeated in the division.

Scattershooting????? Blackie...Blackie Sherrod...Is that you????

I'd say that many of us had expected us to be at 4-2 right now...with the two expected losses at NYG and Baltimore.
That's only one game better than we actually are, but that one game could make all the difference down the stretch.

I totally agree on the road win. Just look at each and every team in the league and see how tough it is to win on the road this year. The downside is that we don't have a great home field advantage to offset the normally tough games on the road.

We're only 6 games in out of 16, so there's still time to improve and plenty of areas that have upside.
I guess we'll see if it actually happens.

Agree with all of this, and an extra hat-tip to Spencer, who played really well yesterday and is, if anything, an underrated defender in Dallas. I loved seeing Rat have a significant impact, too. If we ever get them all on the field--with Sean Lee in, too--for some significant snaps, we'll be a pretty dang good defense.

We'll see how effective the rush can be next week, since the Giants are an offense that will be willing to sit in the pocket to let plays develop. Until we establish some sort of offensive identity, we're going to have to lean on the defense to keep us in big games.

I just pray we get rid of the 3 man rush on 3rd and long. I have no idea what kind of coverage we play with all the extra guys in coverage but it always seems like there is open guys everywhere.

In the context of a season, I agree, any win on the road is a good win.

However, as routinely as Dallas gets drilled at home, I find little solace in a road win.

The overall look of this team isn't good. Ugly losses against Chicago and Seattle and ugly wins against lowly Tampa and Carolina. And now that Baltimore game doesn't look as good after Houston destroyed the Ravens yesterday.

Win Sunday, and things will look a LOT different. Or, we could be looking at 3-6 pretty soon.

Agreed. Dallas was in a four-man late yesterday, and lo and behold, the game game ended on pressure on the QB.

Good points re: the offense. Seems to be the best approach with this group. Play tight, conservative and limit big mistakes. What we truly lack is a playmaker to stretch the defense, and until we get someone like that, the best approach is to be conservative.

Nope. And am I the only one who read that entire post in Craig's voice? :D

Nostradamus?? Seriously, the next game against the Giants will be huge. One game at a time is a realistic mantra for this team. The Baltimore loss was painful but every team losses one that it should have won. Cowboys just have to shake it off and focus on the ones ahead.

And kudos as well to Brent Price and Jason Hatcher. They were in the backfield a ton against the Panthers.

We do...at least as Miles has been hobbled.

I'd also love to see us with a reliable outlet WR who can be where he's supposed to be and move the chains. Beasley or Harris, maybe, if we're ever able to get them into games. Or Ogletree, if he's capable of contributing the way he did in week one.

We hit Miles down the seam, .. but when was the last time we hit a looong pass? Or even how often if we do.

Costa a top 5 center? Negative.

wow. Just wow. Not even coming from one of the extreme Costa homers.

Like some of what he is smoking

In the game against the Ravens, Costa was graded the highest of any linemen on the field for either team.

He can handle all the pre-snap chaos and he gets to the second level regularly for blocks.

Am I overselling him? Perhaps.

We shall see.

Not top 5, but the OL has definitely looked better with Costa the last two weeks. And I think more the reason the Texans blew out the Ravens was b/c the Ravens didn't have Ray Lewis and their starting CB the enitre game and Flacco's INT's were both tipped balls. And Matt Schaub was on fire. Sad part is that the Ravens and Texans are the only two teams in the AFC above .500. Well, sad for the AFC. And Dez definitely needs a whooping right now. If he ever gets his head right, look out. Like to see some of Coale and Holmes and Hanna. Defenses know the starters' tendencies.

I haven't had time to look at the all 22 cause I always seem to be doing something else  but I suspect teams are slipping a back or TE into the short zone/flats and creating a problem when we send more plus there's always leaving pass defenders on an island doing that.

But I agree he should mix it up more showing blitz and backing out and vice versa. But I'm also guessing we are having problems with out safety play and he's having to dial it back. If you want INTs you have to have pressure and good safety play.
