So I was looking at this years schedule and something I noticed that I don't ever remember seeing before is that every game on the final weekend of play is against a division opponent. Every one of them.

Does anyone remember this ever being the case before?

This was a point of emphasis by Roger Goodell.

Appearantly, it led to the delay in the schedule release. From what I understand, the schedule was complete a while ago, but Goodell stated he wanted only divisional games in the final week, so they had to re-do most of the schedule.

It's an effort to curb the whole "resting starters" problem.

I heard a while back that the league was looking to make the last games divisional games in hope of having meaningful games to end the season.

Geez, I missed that whole thing. I guess it's not that big of a thing, I just didn't hear about it.

It happens. I just found out two weeks ago that they're no longer releasing new episodes of Golden Girls.

It's a shame, really. I'll miss Blanche. Meow!

One of the best things Goodell has ever done IMO. I wouldn't mind if the final 3 games were all Division games every year. Those games should matter.

Well they are for us this year.

Grrrrrrr!

Smart move by Goodell. I remember the Giants game at the end of the 93 season when we had to win. And won in OT. Should lead to more interesting games at the end of the year.

one of the best games. Emmitt playing with the hurt shoulder and despite that the Giants could not stop him as he helped to get the team into FG range.

And the 79 game against the Skinless. That had a great finish also :)

I think it will certainly create more "meaningful" games at the end of the year, strictly because they're all rivalries. But it's not going to curb the resting starters problem IMO.

possibly not but i think its a good move, at least he's being pro-active and trying to tackle an actual problem.

It's cool as long as every team has to play division opponents. Too bad all divisions aren't as good as the NFCE.

true, but it does make the Sunday Ticket more appealing.

Not sure why resting starters is a problem, except for the television ratings. If you win your early games, you should have the option to plan ahead for the playoffs.

I feel like the only one who thinks this will exacerbate the situation.

You're playing your biggest rivals, possibly against teams you would face in the Play-Offs. Why play starters in that situation if there is added incentive to "put a little more" into hits, for example? Doesn't anyone else think that it's been the divisional games in the last two weeks of the regular seasons in particular that have led to resting players?

Just my two cents.

I agree. For the league though by having divisional games it very well could create more must win games at the end of the season thus less likely for teams to be in a position to rest starters. As you said though if a team is in that position it clearly is up to them of resting starters and player with minor injuries which is normally a good portion of the starting lineup anyways.

Oh, I don't think it's a problem. Or maybe it's just that I don't define it as a problem because I don't care. If the teams are good enough to wrap up everything by the last week, they deserve it.

I was just referring to the "problem" because some people see it that way.

I'm not a season ticket holder, and if I was going to buy tickets to a game I wouldn't buy one for the last game of the year unless it was a last minute thing where you know the starters will play.
