Cap is 33 million not 26

"That's how things have been headed with no progress in talks over the last few months. Franchising Prescott would pay him $26.9 million this season, but there are rumblings he could hold out."

You sure about that?

Insanity. They deserve what they get if they give him that kind of contract.
Gonna hold out till mahomes gets his deal. Even though he isn’t mahomes, that contract will raise the market some. He is gonna milk JJ for every penny he can get. I understand why. But in a few years he won’t have anyone to throw the ball to.

"Also looming over this delicate situation is the question of which tender the Cowboys would apply. If they opt for the non-exclusive tag (at about $26 million), another team could try to sign Prescott, in exchange for two first-round picks. To keep that from happening, the Cowboys would have to use the exclusive tag, which currently would cost $33.4 million. Either number would become the starting point for a long-term deal."

The same way the Commanders did?

You don't just let him walk for nothing.

Get another year out of him and kick him to the curb

You're not going to get anything from him if he sits! It's a waste of money. 30+ million for a dude sitting on the bench. That's money you can spend on players that will actually step on the field. Not everyone who is Kirk Cousins.

It's stupid. Again, Prescott is not waiting until he's 28 to get his second contract in the league.

Years, time and resources. By wasting time on him you are wasting the prime years of your core. You are using what other teams do as some gauge for what the Cowboys do when we know that’s not the case. We know they don’t operate like any other franchise.

You don’t waste years on a guy. You don’t put pieces around him if he’s not the guy.

Explain this to me. If what you say is true why are they franchise tagging him lol?

Uh, we've been wasting time. We've wasted this offensive line. You know, the big bad offensive line that was supposed to be reminiscent of the 90s line.

Second, why are they franchise tagging him? Because having a starting quarterback is better than having none.

Third, see the Commanders. They continually tagged Cousins knowing they weren't going to keep him. But since they had the leverage and hadn't found his replacement, he was better than Colt McCoy so they re-tagged him every year until they let him go. Dak is better than Cooper Rush. Dak with a good team did get us to the playoffs. Tua/Burrow/Herbert with a good team could get us to a Super Bowl.

It's called dancing with the woman you're with versus the woman you're not with. You don't waste a dance waiting for a prettier woman. ;)

Dak can't live on $26 million! Hell, the cat wouldn't be even able to live on $33.4 million. But, yet... he makes veiled threats about holding out? I hate when players hold a team hostage. Me, I would tell him take what I offer or hit the bricks, he's not that good anyway to be earning large sums of money for his play so far.

What's semi sad is I think fans have his back to mess with this. We're not losing sleep over Prescott. get to Martin, Smith, Zeke, then we wake up. We like seeing late passes but prefer them in the 1st. You're not our new by Default, oh skit....your story is cute but would prefer a pick tbh...even better on a franchise deal. That's a real decision, not by default stuff Dak is relying on.

Yeah, and he won’t care because he has his money. Loyalty begets loyalty, so why should the Cowboys destroy their own future for someone who only cares about the status of “setting the market”. How smart IS Dak, really? Personally, I’d rather make 30 on a good team than 40 on a team full of JAGS. Rich is rich.

Because with this news from Schefter, that would add even more to my point that they aren't confident in Dak and OK with moving on.

been saying it all along

Um, prescott doesn't get paid if he doesn't play. He can't just sit on the bench and collect money and not play. That's not a viable option. He either gets paid and plays. Or he sits at home and makes no money.. For a guy who hasn't been paid, he isnt leaving 30M plus on the table

He'll accept a franchise tag this year under the impression that a deal will get made. Not his second. It's actually still wasted money and a tag - it's wasted on a guy who isn't going to play. Why waste franchise time with a player who doesn't want to be there and a player that we obviously don't believe is THE guy? The Cowboys need to be better than Snyder. This "Own Dak with franchise tags" is stupid. Either he's the guy or not, you should know by his 6th dang season in the league. Also, QBs generally don't hold out because they hold the leverage due to the value at the position, if Jones' plan is to battle Dak in a holdout, Dak will most likely win it.

Put the tag on a guy who actually wants to play for Dallas that will have lesser cap hit rather than messing around thinking that Dak will FINALLY have the light come on in year 6.

They're so confident in Prescott that they won't give the young "great" QB the contract he wants. Yet, they gave an aging and injury prone Romo a contract.

This says a lot more than any of the babble that comes out of Jerry and Stephen. They aren't confident in what they have in Prescott.
One day people will learn how full of ish those two clowns are. Never believe a word that they say

That’s not the Commanders issue. They wanted Cousins just at a certain price.

Jerry likes Dak and doesn’t want to wait for a rookie to develop. It’s why they hired McCarthy. They want a team that can win now. Now this is just my opinion based on their actions. If they draft a quarterback in the first round I’ll feel different. Thus far.....they’ve shown nothing to say Dak isn’t the guy. They just want him at the right deal like they wanted with Zeke.
