They're so confident in Prescott that they won't give the young "great" QB the contract he wants. Yet, they gave an aging and injury prone Romo a contract.

This says a lot more than any of the babble that comes out of Jerry and Stephen. They aren't confident in what they have in Prescott.

Dak has 3-5 seasons left as a starter.

on average.

so they are nervous.

That’s not the Commanders issue. They wanted Cousins just at a certain price.

Jerry likes Dak and doesn’t want to wait for a rookie to develop. It’s why they hired McCarthy. They want a team that can win now. Now this is just my opinion based on their actions. If they draft a quarterback in the first round I’ll feel different. Thus far.....they’ve shown nothing to say Dak isn’t the guy. They just want him at the right deal like they wanted with Zeke.

winning now is important.

the offensive rebuild starts in 3-5 years .

Directly from Dak? Can you link me to this or was this a "rumor"? I very highly doubt this is the case. Because with this news from Schefter, that would add even more to my point that they aren't confident in Dak and OK with moving on.

This would make sense.

if Dak gets hurt, no money.

I hope we know by draft day the status of Dak's contract situation in case a good QB prospect is available

yes.

decide how many more seasons Dak has as a starter.

let’s say 3, as an example. That would be 7 seasons.

a year or two before that number, draft your next QB.

If the morons in the front office are not sold on Dak yet. Trade him.

I hope this is just a bad negotiation tactic from Jerry.

How can they have done what they did for Captain Cabo and do this for Dak?

Your all over the place so what’s your point now? Nobody wants him throwing them the ball?
You asked who Romo lead to 1,500 receiver. I said To and Dez did, not an earthquake shift in discussion? Dak almost did w/Amari...now back to sq one.? If a receiver was banking on FA, I think Dak would be the latter guys providing those stats.

The paid Captain Cabo because they thought it was the year, then it all went to hell. They will do the same thing with Dak hoping things get better the more money you pay them...that does not work.

I have a feeling it’s coming. Cowboys have goofed this up real good.
How do you know who goofed this up? Dak turned down a Russell Wilson contract, so it's as easy for me to believe that he is asking for something unreasonable as it is to believe the Cowboys are lowballing or whatever. I tend to believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. Some people seem to think Jerry should give Dak whatever he wants if the FO really thinks Dak is a franchise QB. The reactions will be interesting if that turns out to be four years for $160m and $120m guaranteed.

The front office have screwed this up for the past 12 months. I'm no mega fan boy of dak but he should be locked up by now if you think he is the guy.
And he is being greedy too.
This FO has been screwing up for a lot longer than 12 months. Let’s hope MM has a voice now. So what if we go 8-8 next season or worse. We’ve finally got change! Personally I hope MM has his eyes on a bigger prize than Dak or at least bring in a couple competent QBs for serious competition.

I think when McCarthy met with Jerry Jones, they discussed EVERYTHING, but particularly, the quarterback situation. I think they all know what they have in Dak - whether bus driver or franchise. And they're just letting the game play itself out.
I, personally, believe that the Jones aren't solid on Dak. If so, he would have been signed by now. I don't know if McCarthy is sold on Dak, but he wants to see what he can do with him for one season.
Furthermore, I would not be surprised to see the Cowboys take a quarterback in the first three rounds. That's my prediction. And if Tua or Herbert miraculously drop to 17, it would not surprise me in the least if they took either. McCarthy has worked enough around Aaron Rodgers and with the WCO to know he's going to need a starting quarterback able to run his system and a backup quarterback who can take over if the starter goes down.
McCarthy doesn't have to win now. As long as he puts his plan in motion like Andy Reid did. KC jumped from #27 to #10 to grab Mahomes, giving up, essentially, only a 1st and a 3rd, let Mahomes sit for a year and then, walla, the Chiefs will be perennial contenders for the next 10 years.
I believe McCarthy has a similar plan in mind. Everyone else is watching for DT and safeties. I'm watching the quarterback position because I think that's the key spot and that's where the action is going to be focused. I don't think McCarthy wants to mess this job up. So he's going to take care of that position and determine what he has at quarterback THIS YEAR!
THIS!

Can you link me to this? Because what I just got linked was Dak telling Fisher he'll "talk to his agent" and to "report that".

Prescott would be the first QB in, I don't know how long, to holdout. You can still tag and negotiate - basically you get guaranteed money to still be able to get the contract you want.

This is the direct quote from Prescott in that article from a coupe days ago: "We'll get to that when we get to that,'' Prescott said. “I look forward to talking to my agents and when that (franchise tag) comes to play, the direction that we’ll go. Until that’s a reality, I won’t worry about it.

”I don’t think any of that is necessary,” Prescott continued. “But that’s business. That’s all calculated. That’s all on them.”

It’s obvious Prescott is placing the ball in Dallas’ court heading into the offseason. And while the Cowboys’ brass remains confident, these negotiations started long before Week 1 of the 2019 season.

When asked if he planned on working out at The Star in Dallas this offseason without a long-term deal, Prescott did not mince words in saying he’d be absent. “Report that,” Prescott uttered. “Be sure to report that.”

Same wording was used on the MSN/NFL pages a couple of days ago.

He never mentions talking to his agent.

Yeah, and he won’t care because he has his money. Loyalty begets loyalty, so why should the Cowboys destroy their own future for someone who only cares about the status of “setting the market”. How smart IS Dak, really? Personally, I’d rather make 30 on a good team than 40 on a team full of JAGS. Rich is rich.
Yep and not to mention he will make loads off the endorsements that the starting QB for The Dallas Cowboys gets. I think he has made more off that them his football check. Guessing but I figure we are offering a little more than goff made. If he and his agent are expecting more then I tag him. If he holds out then he holds out.

agree
This is on Dak not the Cowboys
If I’m Jerry I tag Dak and tell his agent to go find a negotiating partner who will give Dak more than 30 mill/ year

This is quoting the same thing I posted in this thread, and the one posted by Reality. He actually DID mention talking to his agent. The "report that" came after this quote: "We'll get to that when we get to that,'' Prescott said. “I look forward to talking to my agents and when that (franchise tag) comes to play, the direction that we’ll go. Until that’s a reality, I won’t worry about it.”

So yeah, he mentioned his agent.

He's not going to holdout when he'll be getting close to 30 million. However, people are insane if they think we can tag him twice and he'll wait until he's 28 for his second contract in the league.
What choice does he have? Unless he throws for 5,000 and has 45 TDs...that may very well happen.

No, they didn't want him. That's why they never signed him to a franchised deal!

Fair enough. I'm not going to swear by my opinion. We all have them. I don't think your position is unreasonable either. We'll see how everything pans out.
