This would be a very smart move IMHO. They need to evaluate him under a real coaching staff before committing the money he wants. Personally I think he will excel under McCarthy but they need to be sure before committing such an insane amount of money on a long term contract. McCarthy needs to be able to "try it before you buy it" to know for sure Dak will fit his system.

They may be asking for 38-41 per year and maybe even some huge stupid chunk up front that would hinder us greatly. Jerry has shown he's willing to pay, so I betcha his people are being overly greedy with their demands.

None of us can say either way, that's why blame for no deal getting done has to be shared equally and not just one side "goofed up".

Sign Brees or Brady for 2 years; sign Kaepernick as the backup; and draft a QB in the draft

They're so confident in Prescott that they won't give the young "great" QB the contract he wants. Yet, they gave an aging and injury prone Romo a contract.

This says a lot more than any of the babble that comes out of Jerry and Stephen. They aren't confident in what they have in Prescott.

While you may be right, I think this is more an indication that Dak won't accept the 34.5 million the Cowboys want to give him. He actually wants to be the highest paid QB at around $40 million. That is absurd. JJ and company know it, and are not going to play that game.

I don't believe for one second that's what the Cowboys are doing. They tagged DLaw last year before agreeing to an extension. The tag bought them time, and that's what's going on with Dak. They intend to extend him this year.

Don't be surprised if the Dak camp threatens an hold out to better expedite this lengthy contract negotiations in their favor.

this seems like another Stephen Jones stretch -it -out and play the last minute chicken game - as seems to go on per the Jones " Deadlines make Deals " theory (ala Dlaw and Zeke)

A Dak hold out is a threat to the entire season as we need to get him in here from Camp one, with getting accolated, with McCarthy version offense very early on,
- otherwise we can spend the entire season with Dak more in a learning catch up mode.

You do know you’re not saying much different than the person you quoted?

I still think the tag is the only way to go here.

Jerry proved last year with Elliott that he'll panic and pay up so Dak might as well hold out. Jerry has a history of overpaying players. I personally don't think Dak has earned a big payday.

Just listening to Cowherd he is reporting that from his sources Dak will receive the tag.

Yeah I figured he would receive the tag but I didn't know this had been reported by anyone reputable.
Was reported yesterday. Odds are they negotiate with him through the month. The deadline to assign the tag is March 10th
