TRADED Schefter: Cowboys trade for Logan Wilson (7th round pick)

Cincy fans are saying he's good in zone coverage, but struggles in man coverage. I haven't watched any film to verify but if true, he should be a nice plug-and-play, and a big upgrade over Murray. Guess we will see.
Cheap price in the pick. A few years left on his contract. Decent pass rush skills. Decent zone coverage skills. Upgrade over Murray or Sandborn

We could have just brought Kendricks back.
He was decent for us last year and he would cost next to nothing.
I don't not like Wilson, just don;t love the contract.
He hits the cap for like 9 mil for 2 years after this one with a costly buyout.
That's my issue. Why do this now, does Jerry actually think this is a PO team?
Could have a similar player in the off season for less money.

Kendricks is a lot older than Wilson and Dallas will have him under contract for a few more years.

So I knew Jerry was dying to make a trade this season. And while I think it's fairly dumb. He probably gets cut in the off season. If this satisfies Jerry's need to make a trade and we don't blow a 1st on a rental, then I will take it.

The hate is: they are going NOWHERE this year. What is the upside of this pick - they win one more meaningless game which hurts the future (draft). So - they have given up a draft pick (I don't care what round it still has value) for the chance to hurt their own draft position. It makes NO SENSE.
He is signed through 2027. Do you honestly think Logan Wilson is going to win us more games by himself?

He fills a need at the cost of a cup of coffee and worst case, he is an excellent backup the next 2 years. Best case, he’s a solid fill-in while we draft/develop his replacement.

Last year in 11 games, his tackle numbers were:
12, 12, 9, 10, 9, 9, 10, 8, 9, 8, 8

This should be a good trade for the next couple of years or at least 2026 IMO. Don't act like a trade needs to be for a superstar to be a good move. Any trade that makes us better than before the trade is a good move. We gave up a 7th rounder. Our LBer room needs a complete overhaul for next year. Is he worth $6M per for 2026 and 2027, I'm not so sure about that and am wondering if his salary is negotiated down a little, but we have a huge hole at LBer and in particular LBers who understand their roles in an NFL defense and can tackle. The Bengals had a couple of young kids they wanted to get on the field and were cutting Wilson after the season either way because they can't afford him and that is why he was benched. He can still tackle, has decent instincts and that's a skillset none of our LBers seem to have. Murray and Sanborn should be gone. James needs to learn his responsibilities on each play before he can be trusted. Liufau didn't take the jump forward this year I hoped. So that leaves us Overshown coming off another bad injury and question marks. We need LBers going forward and since we also need other positions there are only so many holes we can plug through the draft.

I just looked at the Bengals stats. Note that Wilson lost his starting job after week 5
Bengals YTD rushing yards against per game this year is the worst in the league at: 166 yard per game

But let's break it down a little further:
Bengals rushing yards against per game weeks 1-5 (games Wilson played FT): 132 yard per game
Bengals rushing yards against per game weeks 6-9 (games Wilson didn't start): 209 yard per game

That is a massive difference and last year they were in the middle of the pack in rushing yards per game allowed.. Is it because of Wilson I am not claiming, but if you are going to point to the Bengals defense stinking as the main reason to state a trade for a guy some of you probably seldom have even seen play as your reason at least know the specifics of that defense with and without him.

Also he has no guaranteed money left so at worst he costs us a 7th and whatever we pay him this year against the cap. I like this move. Not going to help this year but no trade should be judged with how it helps us this season. Also ticks Scotty's boxes of leader, good locker room presence, etc but honestly that is borderline meaningless to me. The only thing that matters to me is if he currently is one of our top 3 LBers and absolutely on run downs at least heading into next year and again ZERO dead money after this year on this contract.

29 years old and often injured in the last 2 years.... .come on down!

Exactly, under contract at 9 mil per year. That's a lot for an average LB. Kendricks would cost 2.

He came here to play for Zimmer.

Zimmer is gone, Kendricks is 33, maybe he just wanted to hang up the cleats prior to 2025

Wilsons cap hit will be 6.55mil next year and 7.2mil in 2027.
The prorated cap hits from the signing bonus stay in Cinncy

So is that it then, the trade he was creaming his pants about last night was this?? A blockbuster that’s costing us a 7th rounder lol
No wonder the Cowboys are the laughing stock of the league with this senile old goat in charge, he’s become worse than Al Davis ever was.

He is doing this as much for next year as this year, no doubt we will be drafting a LB early next year but what else do we have other then a maybe recovering O? Even if you draft a stud next year you are going to need a veteran presence that can play. Wilson's contract is a good one for a very solid veteran next year for a 7th round pick.

With Wilson on board, Shemar James continuing to grow, and the prospect of Liufau developing further and Overshown at least being healthy enough for a half season, LBer could become a real strength next year, with the right DC and scheme.
