I'm sure Romo's agent a few years argued for Romo to push for a no-trade clause or at least a right of first refusal. But at the time, Jerry told him there was zero chance he would ever trade Tony, and if by miracle it came to that, wink-wink, Tony would have say.

So Jerry said, no need to bother with that veteran right of first refusal thing, you can trust me.:muttley:
probably the same as "I'd never not allow you to fairly compete for the job"
Oh...wait.

I don't know of any such clauses ever being put into NFL player contracts.

Can somebdy tell me how the Front Office dont hold all the cards with the Romo situation?

He's under contract so his options are:

Backup
Traded
Retire

What am i missing

Exactly right. If you're Houston - with an obvious gaping hole at quarterback - why would you not send the Cowboys a draft pick?

If you get cheap and roll the dice, you run the risk of Romo signing with Denver and being left out in the cold with nothing but the Jay Cutlers of the world, and not much better off than where you are now. Wasting another season of possible championship contention because you screwed up (again!) at the quarterback position.

For as much as Denver might think he's their missing piece, I actually think that Houston is in better position to compete for a championship, if they had the quarterback.
My big thing with Denver is, Romo has had 2 back surgeries and 2 collarbone injuries. Playing in Mile High is a lot different than playing anywhere else. May be worse for him to go there, oh, and there is that little fact that Denver has one of the worst OL's in football.

Just another failure on our front office if this happens. Jerry probably releasing him to let him choose his team instead of helping the Cowboys.

The offensive line is the biggest factor to me. Denver's is terrible. Even I they sign Leary as reported, there are still holes all over.

Conversely, Houston's is solid outside of an obvious need at right tackle.

I think Romo would get killed in Denver.

He's under contract so his options are:

Backup (he can agree to a pay cut but doesn't have to)
Traded (we can get something for him (IF there is is an offer) if he agrees, we can't if not. No team wants a player unless he wants them..esp a starting QB)
Retire

You are missing that it's a Fisher report.

I wouldn't get upset speculating over something that might not happen. But if it does, I'll be standing right next to you with my torch and pitchfork too.

Yeah...no. There are/will be teams interested in the benefits of trading for him vs. letting him hit the market. Even if it's just a mere 5th or 6th round pick.

Its not just fisher saying this though. Several people on Twitter are saying the same thing

And Jerry is saying it too...to some degree.
I think really it's a 50-50 thing.

No comment if that is right or wrong, just that is what I think it is.

That could be true.

Then Jerry will have to ask, is 5 mil in extra cap space after June 1st worth the 5th or 6th rounder. You can get a WAY better player at 5 mil than you can 95% of the time with a 5th or 6th rounder.
I guess the next question would be, who would still be available June 1. Not that we ever grab players early, but that is getting later.

Thanks.

So we're basically screwed if we cant find a trade partner with him...

So Fish is right....
There is some value in 5 mil cap space for a post June2 waiver. It could come in handy. Would be nice to have the extra space earlier, but it's not peanuts. You get that with a waiver but not with a trade.
So in truth, you aren't entirely giving him away for nothing with a waiver...though we all would like more still.
