Maybe I am missing something, but it was not Adam Schefter that said Austin would play second fiddle to Ted Ginn. That was the opinion of Rototimes.com in response to Shefter's(actually Mort's as pointed out by another poster) comments that Austin may be a sought after RFA next season.

Adam Schefter of ESPN suggested that Miles Austin could land in Miami if Dallas does not re-sign him.

Our View: Bill Parcells inked Austin to the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, and he would provide a nice wingman for rising star Ted Ginn Jr. if acquired by the Dolphins.

If he really said that he is an idiot for several overlapping reasons. First of all it is the laziest and simplest thing to say Bill Parcells would be willing to sign a former player of his. Really? No one has seen that happen before Adam. Second, a wingman for Ginn? Miles is going to have 1300 yards in 12 games, how is he anyones wingman. And if he was a free agent every team in the league will want him. And why oh why would Dallas let him go. Schechter has really gotten over on ESPN and much of the public.

Fixed it for you.

thought he was ok when he was on the NFL Network, you must lose journalistic credibility when you get to ESPN

Nobody is adressing the issue though. How in the hell can we have 2 wr's making 50 mil plus and a tight end making top dollar? What the hell

Dude, there is no more salary cap after this year. So we can pay everybody on the team $50 mill if we want.

Now if a new CBA is agreed to and it brings the salary cap back, then we may have a problem. However, as far as next year goes, there is no cap so we can pay Austin anything he wants.

I don't really keep up with all that CBA crap. It doesn't do anything at all for me. I doubt Miles is going to only get 38 mil though. Why would he accept less than what Roy is making when he is light years better:confused:

Incorrect.

Under the old CBA, a player with 4 yrs accrued in the leage is an UFA while a player with 3 yrs accrued in the league is a restricted FA.

2010 however is uncapped as the last year of the CBA. However, in addition to no salary cap being in place, players with 4yrs accrued in the league will be restricted insead of being an UFA. It will take 5 yrs accrued in the league to be an UFA.

Thus, Austin and anybody else whose contract expires and has 4yrs or less accrued in the league is going to be a resticted FA. Therefore, Dallas will tender Austin (most likely) at the 1st and 3rd level or Dallas could use their franchise tag on Austin.

So Miami would have to give up at least a 1st and 3rd or possibly 2 first round picks if they want Austin. I highly doubt they give up that many picks for somebody to be Ted Ginn Jrs wingman, dont you agree????

On one hand, Miles could well be the kind of guy to give the team a little bit of a discount for sticking with him all these years. Romo, Ware, Ratliff and Witten all have done that, taking a little less than they probably could have demanded (Hamlin, Barber and Roy ... umm, not so much). On the other hand, here's a former undrafted player who is on the verge of getting his first big NFL contract and he might well milk it for all it's worth. I wouldn't blame him at all if he did.

At the very least, I think you're absolutely correct about Roy's contract playing a role in this. It's hard not to think Austin uses Roy's contract and says, "Look, I've doubled him up statistically, so the starting point in negotiations is $50 million."

His agent will damn sure bring it up. Lol at him taking 38 mil. If he does that he's an idiot.

I'm still waiting for someone to suggest that maybe he'll sign a one-year deal to allow us to ensure he's not a one-hit wonder before breaking the bank on him. :laugh2:

With no cap to worry about, I fix that problem real easy.

Roy, you are herby released. That $50 mill contract is a joke.

Now Austin is the highest paid receiver at $35 mill.:)

I've followed the Cowboys long enough to know that Jones does not let good FA's go.. ESPECIALLY ones that Dallas made them who they are. Ratliff, Witten, Austin, Romo, Crayton, etc. Only someone silly would worry about Austin leaving.

That list makes me thankful for Big Bill alone, and that is leaving out a lot of the unsungs. I don't mean to take this topic off subject (or maybe I do?,) but I think at this point we have to realize that it really is Parcells and his mafia that brought us out of the 5-11 era and into this potential.

that seems wrong, miles just now showed he has it, has been a project for years, roy was a number one pick, been to a pro-bowl and prior to joining the cowboys was considered one of the better WR in the league.

Miles doesn't start anywhere near roy money.

and if he does, screw the kid
