When you bust as much as they did- you will stay down in the cellar. Same thing happened to us- you look at our drafts in the late 90s and early 2000s and they were putrid.

I would love to see David Carr in Cleveland. That would be huge.

That would turn him into the next great AFC quarterback.

David Carr, Jamal Lewis, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow behind a line consisting of...

LeCharles Bentley, Cosey Coleman, Nat Dorsey, Lennie Friedman, and Eric Steinbach. If Bentley can come back that would be a pretty good offense.

There defense will also be better this year. If McGinest is healthy next year that will be huge for them. They should probably sign a de/olb though. Their pass rush was worse than ours last year. But I can see their potential.

Is Bently going to be back?

It'll come down to if Romeo and Savage are willing to bet their jobs on Carr. This is likely their last season if things don't improve.

He'll probably continue to stand on the sideline, hands gripping his shoulder-pads, wearing his "who farted?" face.

Actually, they still don't know if he'll ever be worth a darn on that knee. They gotta do something.

He was QB'ing horribly before the knee.... Moss left and he could hit the side of a barn. Its not the knee(s)

Maybe Schaubb can shatter Carr's single season sack record:laugh2:

I can't believe Houston gives a career backup that kind of money with ONLY TWO NFL starts under his belt.. And yes boys and girls that's the reason why they are the Houston Texans!

And this is compounded by passing on Vince Young and Reggie Bush a year ago.

After reading your comment I thought I would see just how badly the Browns have been sucking on high picks:

Since they were re-franchised in 1999 the Browns have had 14 picks in the top-50 including 5 in the top-10, and also including 2 #1 overall picks.

I'll go down the list according to the player's draft number:

#1 1999 QB Tim Couch - Out of football after the 2003 season although his name has resurfaced from time to time, most recently last year when he was in the Packer's TC but was released after a couple of weeks. He never lived up to the hype coming out of college and certainly didn't live up to being the #1 overall pick in 1999 (although he turned out to be a better QB than #3 pick Akili Smith or #12 Cade McNown). Not a total bust (like Heath Shuler or Terry Baker) as he played below average but a long ways from what you would expect from the #1 pick. That qualifies him as a major bust.

#1 2000 DE Courtney Brown - Now this guy was a total bust. He is still in the league, playing with Denver the last 2 years, but he didn't play at all last season. He looked like he might come on in his 2nd season when he had 4.5 sacks in 5 games but he got hurt and never showed that ability again.

#3 2001 DT Gerrard Warren - Another DL who has since moved on to the Denver Broncos. He had a decent year as a rookie but went downhill from there, never a good sign. He is a journeyman player who is fortunate to be starting at all. Major bust.

#3 2005 WR Braylon Edwards - Edwards didn't do much his rookie year, which isn't that unusual for a rookie WR but his 2nd season he did come on a bit more. Still, 61 catches for 884 yards and 6 TDs isn't exactly lighting it up and you surely expect a lot more from the 3rd guy taken in the draft. He has shown some skills at times but is very inconsistent and doesn't look like he will ever amount to a whole lot. Major bust.

#6 2004 TE Kellen Winslow Jr. - Bad stuff just seems to happen to this guy which is usually a sign that he is pretty stupid and puts himself into dumb situations where bad stuff is likely to happen (hear that Keith Davis?). When he finally got to play last year he did pretty good with 89 receptions (which led the league) for 875 yards but only 3 TDs. I think he will eventually be a top TE in the league but only if he changes his lifestyle and attitude. Potential star.

#13 2006 LB Kamerion Wimbley - Wimbley was a guy many were hoping we would select and he certainly made some of us wish we had instead of Carpenter as he racked up 62 tackles and 11 sacks in his rookie season. He is a total loss in pass coverage but is a very good pass rusher. Will have to see if he will have a sophomore slump but I think he will be a star in the league.

#16 2002 RB William Green - You expect a lot more from a mid-1st round pick than 887 yards, which wasn't too bad for a rookie but that was his best year. He went downhill from there and was released injured after the 2005 season. He has not yet resurfaced but he probably will eventually. I don't expect him to be anything more than a 3rd string guy though. Solid bust.

#21 2003 C Jeff Faine - It's hard to rate OLs but Faine was decent for the Browns. They took the opportunity to upgrade with LeCharles Bentley and Faine replaced Bentley with the Saints. He was a Pro-Bowl alternate this past season with New Orleans so he must not suck too badly. What sucks for the Browns is that Bentley got a huge contract but never got to play for them as he went down in a training camp drill with a major knee injury. Faine wasn't a bust but they could sure use him now.Good player.

That's all of the 1st round picks. Of their high 2nd rounders, 4 of them were WRs and only one is still with the team, Dennis Northcutt, and he isn't all that.

In the final analysis, I would say that the last few drafts have been pretty good for the Browns in the 1st round, getting Faine, Winslow, Edwards, & Wimbley after blowing all 4 of the previous ones. It just kills me to see 2 #1s and a #3 wasted like that (Couch, Brown, & Warren).

We've blown a lot of draft picks but none as high as those.

I think Wimbley was off the board when the Cowboys picked... I was hoping for him as well.

If Green goes to Miami, what happens to Culpepper?
NFL Network tonight actually said Miami would likely cut Culpepper. I am NOT kidding.

No looking back, but Carr is a player I would've greatly liked during our years of qb change turmoil. Figures they'd get rid of him now. Good question where he'll end up. Could really shake up this draft a little more if he was to go to one of the top picking teams though, and marked as their starter. The way things are starting to play out with the recent trades and fa signings, it would not be inconceivable for us to think a few quality players will start dropping in the draft. Priorities are literally changing left 'n right. And it seems more so than in recent years. Suddenly qb and rb needs are diminishing, and now the defensive players might start looking better to some of those teams at the top. Basically I think teams are getting more weary of rookies, especially if you aren't the top touted player at your position coming out of the draft- the high money is doing this. People are seeing first hand with the Romo-experiement that a little bit of grooming and patience with an intelligent player may be a better answer over breaking the bank on a 2nd rate top player off the board and then just basically holding your breath while you wait for him to possibly devolop. Like if say, Quinn, doesn't become an instant starter, how much money does that particular team waste, by the game, throughout his devolopment? Get a guy like Romo and you've got a few years of settled wait, no urgency required while you build up the rest of your team. (And yea that's right, no insurance that even a guy like Quinn is going to go anywhere in this league and start right off the bat. Joey Harrington. Tim Couch. We don't need to go on.)

All QBs are projects for all intents and purposes. You have to pick one that will fit in your system- not try and make someone who doesn't fit work.

The Raiders should pounce on Carr, then select Charles Johnson with the first pick. I just think Russell is as big a gamble as Carr with new scenery, and at least they get Johnson in the deal by going with Carr.
