(March 20, 2006) -- One of the busiest teams of the offseason struck again when the Seattle Seahawks reached agreement with former San Francisco linebacker Julian Peterson on a blockbuster seven-year, $54 million deal.

The deal, which the Seahawks and agent Kevin Poston spent today finalizing, includes $18.5 million worth of guarantees, including $10 million this season.
Judas Priest. He's good, but that's nuts.

Geeze I wanted Peterson but not for any freakin' $54 mil. That is some outragous green for a guy coming off an Achilles tear.

I was trying to figure out a good way to put it. I think that pretty much sums it up...

hopefully we can snag lavar....if not.....hmmm.....

Lavar will not be a Cowboy. He hates Dallas and will want too much money.

WOW!!!!!! He got all that damn money. I don't think they can afford Brown now if we give him a good enough contract.
Money is not an obstacle. Multi-billionaire Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft, owns the Seahawks. They're only concerned about their future salary cap health. Something Dan Snyder hasn't figured out yet.

Hopefully this equals Josh Brown to Dallas.
Good point. After reading they lost Hutch, I assumed Brown was a lock at Seattle. THEN I read the money the gave Peterson. That's ridiculous.

That makes OLB the number 1 need in the draft. Say hello to Carp/Law/Wimb.

looks like they lose the best guard in the league.

no other move they make is going to fix that. they can sign all the LBs in the league it isn't going to take the sting away.

spot on. it never ceases to amaze me how people continue to underestimate the importance of line play.

.

Wow, I'm REALLY glad we didn't get him. That is a ridiculous amount of money, sounds like a Wash Commander contract. NO way Peterson lives up to that money with his play.
I'd prefer Lawson or Carpenter, both would be comparatively cheap and neither has an achilles injury in their history. I've still never seen anyone come back from that with the same speed, quickness, or explosiveness that they had before the injury. Haven't seen it yet, don't expect to see it from Pete.

Peterson is a much better fit for that defense than the one in Dallas anyway. I'm definitely not losing any sleep over that signing.

I think they made the right move on Hutch too. So what if he is the best guard in the league, you don't pay guards that kind of coin. Tackles, yes. Not guards.

You can go get three starting guards for the money that Hutchinson will be making.

They've also got Spencer, their first round pick from last year sitting there. He was a center, but I think he has the size to play guard. Not to mention Pork Chop Womack who is probably better suited to guard than tackle. And an established OL coach.....I bet they hardly miss a beat.
