No surprise when you consider 8 teams w/o 1st round picks. Add to that a couple of teams may wanna draft one of the QBs late to get the 5th year option.

However the more of those teams that see fit to trade back and further down the 1st round, pose a threat for guys we may have the most interest.
at 24th overall .

Frankly if we do not have the guys in Group A that are on our draft board, I'm all for moving down a few spots to
gain a 3rd round pick.

I would only consider moving all the way out of 1st round, if there's no one in Group A left, and we're very confident the next group of players in Group B,
will still be there - and we receive a high 2nd round pick.

It could go the other way due to multiple teams not having 1st round picks.

  • I see teams without 1st round picks trying to trade up into the late 1st.
  • It would be too much draft capital to trade into the top half of the 1st, but late 1st could be very appealing to some of those teams.
    • Especially, teams that are in 'win now' mode like the Rams.
  • The issue for the Cowboys is that most of those teams only have future draft picks to use for trading up.
    • It will be easier for a team with two picks in the 1st, to take future picks in exchange for one of their 2022 1st rounders.
  • If I had two 1st round picks, I would try to stockpile future picks in exchange for 1 of them.
    • In theory, a team with two 1st rounders could continually get a future 1st round pick and stockpile the additional future picks every year.
    • i.e. They could have two 1st round picks every year.

The other scenario is teams with two 2nd round picks.
- Those teams might see a player available late first that has a top half of the 1st type rating on their board.

Would love to drop down and get two second round picks and two thirds.

Teams often see it the other way. If there are multiple players at #24 with similar rankings on their board, then trading back makes sense because 1 or more of those players will likely remain available later.
- Example: If there are 3 OL available at #24 with similar rankings on the Cowboys board, they could trade back in the 1st and likely still be able to draft one of them.
- Even if they traded with Detroit at #32, from a probability perspective, it is unlikely that 3 of the 7 picks from #24 to #31 would be OL, especially not interior OL.

The Cowboys are prepared (based on Stephen Jones interviews) to draft a top rated player that drops to #24 regardless of position.
- Assuming that no top rated players drop, then in this 2022 draft, the Cowboys probably have a significant number of players on the next tier that will be available at #24.

Makes sense when you look at teams wanting QB’s. Take Detroit, who likes Willis, but #2 is to rich. Trade down a few picks and still take him. Carolina, Atlanta, and Seattle May be thinking the same thing. Teams can find extra value in rounds 2 to 5.

Det is aiming at Willis? Gawd, the dumbness continues in DET. Dude plays like Jalen Hurts part deux, a guy who can run the ball but is inferior passing it. No anticipation or any type of feel for the passing game. Also TO prone.

That is why the continue to suck. They should trade down and get more picks. If they can’t find a taker they should daft one of the pass rushers.

Perfect environment and opportunity to trade up for Jordan Davis.

I wouldn't mind if we got a 2023 1st rounder out of it similar to the Browns Brady Quinn trade with the Cowboys.

IF no there are no surprised drops AND Green and Johnson are gone before 24, I could actually see this happening.
