Say what you want about Schoonmaker in the passing game, he's basically what we ordered when we opted for a blocking TE.

I saw him making way a few times out there, so I know he's been doing his job in that regard.|

Pollard, too, on the touchdown to Ferg. Pollard is money pass-blocking in the redzone.

He's a huge liability in the passing game.

I shudder when I think of some of the other TE's that were drafted this year. LaPorta, Kincaid, Mayer

Those were all drafted AHEAD of Schoon. He was taken late 2nd. Once Schoon gets this passing game figured out and gets some targets he will surprise folks. He is huge and can run. For now the OP is right, throwing some good blocks out there.

Agree. Their chemistry has been off. You can really tell he wasn't active in training camp. I have a feeling we'll have to give him another year, like Ferg and Hendershot. Either way, he's been solid in the blocking game, which is really what they were looking for.

Plus, we're talking about blocks within the context of a play, and most fans don't see that as a play. They want stats.

Schoonmaker is an older rookie, but he's also an older rookie that will likely have to develop in the league, same as Ferguson. Some think that's a big knock on him, but then again, he strikes me as the kind of player who'll be better at 35 than 25..

Schoon reminds me sort of Hockenson. If he modeled his game around that kind of play, he could be really good in the passing game. He has the tools. They just don't have the chemistry yet. There's a reason these guys need training camp.

I don't dislike Schoon as much as I dislike the pick. There were more pressing needs at the #2 draft slot.

That's way too high for a blocking TE. He let a perfectly thrown ball bounce right off both hands today.

I'm more than willing to reevaluate in time, but I continue to believe that he was a massive reach in round 2. I sincerely hope to be proven wrong in time, but that's the way I see it.

If we wanted a blocking TE it should have been Darnel Washington in RD 3.

Personally, I would have prolly drafted Josh Downs. But he was high on my radar. Just thought he was BPA and solved a future need. I see why they drafted Schoonmaker. We have the pass-catching TEs already with Ferguson.. We needed the best blocking TE we could find. That's what we wanted. That's what we got.

They didn't even have to teach him much there, given he wasn't active in camp. Just wait until he actually attends camp. I think it'll be fair to judge him then. The fact he can already block, and play that aspect of the game cohesively ought to be re-assuring. He may be 25, but it's still his first year in the league. The passing game will come along.

You saw it vs. the Eagles. He was just short by a few. Not all his fall if you look where the ball was placed, just not the best execution. But ability is there.

I was happy with the Mazi pick. We were overdue to invest in the Dline. I wanted O'Cyrus Torrence in round 2 and Darnell Washington round 3.

Our current run game would be much improved!!!

He has a whopping 2 catches for 17 yards 0 TDs vs Schoonmaker 3 catches for 14. I haven't noticed a big difference, yet. But many also thought Washington was a first round pick. I can see the athleticism is there. But I suspect there's more to that. Because the athleticism is so apparent with Washington. I'll take my chances with Schoonmaker and Overshown in 3. Like I said earlier, I wanted other players too. But I still like the players we got.

Point taken. I just think it's too early to tell. It's a good sign that he can already block some out there. That's what they want from him.

Washington is hands down the best blocking TE in the class. Overshown was our best pick of the draft. He will replace LVE.

You don't waste a 2nd round pick on a blocking TE.
He isn't just a blocking TE.

And there weren't more pressing needs to the Cowboys. They wanted to shore up their blocking and replace Schultz.
