It's amusing to see folks blaming Schoon's lack of production on "coaching". It was a bad pick on draft day, and it's still bad. Most of us have been consistent from the moment he was picked in the draft.

The fanboys just can't admit it. It can't possibly be their pet cat. Has to be something else.

This is bad coaching, he wasn't worth a 2nd but he is athlethic, big and strong, no reason why he can not develop in this offense.

Cowboy are such a disfunctional team.
Maybe he just is not A GOOD PLAYER.
Ever think of that?

Schoonmacher has to get past this year . Let the next coaching staff see if 6’6” TE can contribute

Schoonmaker has been worse than I originally thought he would be. I remember how much I hated the pick. He’s the fourth TE we’ve drafted in the second round since 2006 and he’s been the worst of them so far. I said when we drafted him he wouldn’t see a second contract. He may not get through his first contract before being cut.

Our last four 2nd round picks:

Marshawn Kneeland - injured
Luke Schoonmaker - dog house
Sam Williams - injured/suspended
Kelvin Joseph - out of the league

2023 draft looking pretty awful.

One of the handy things on Pro Football Reference is their AV - Approximate Value metric.
Like every metric it isn't perfect, but it's an indicator that's basically in the right direction.
Mazi got twice what anyone else got.
He got a 2.
That's how sorry that draft class was.
At least Overshown is giving us a decent player this year. But that's it so far for that draft class.

He was already 25 years old when his rookie season started. That was a failure in itself. You can have a little patience when you draft a 21 year old.

Schoonmaker is what he is. He's terrible.
We wish Schoonmaker could have that type of impact. At least Mr. Smith had one good season.

No. He didn't fit their system.
You and I have never agreed with this. He is a guard, not a running back. He blocks the guys in front of him. I like you, BigDog, but I respectfully think your position is wrong.

Well either Schoon was a really bad pick, or our coaches haven't coached him up to be effective. It seems like every other team in the NFL drafts a TE, and they turn into a player. We have failed miserably, and Ferguson has regressed this year. Somebody has to take the blame for this, right? The Zeke thing is just another failure in the entire organization not just coaches
If that were true every team would have 2-3 really good TE's. That's not reality. And remember, Ferguson has stepped up and done very well, so that further limits Schoonmaker's opportunities. And, again, the fact Schultz and Ferguson both have done well doesn't support the idea the team can't coach a TE. The only real conclusion is that Schoonmaker wasn't worth a 2nd round pick.

Another Michigan bum. Mazi and Schoon back to back picks is vomit inducing. Dallas might be one of the worst 2nd rd drafting teams I have ever seen. That is a round where you absolutely find talent. This isn't a 7th rd throwaway pick. We consistently miss on this round year after year and wonder why we have a lack of depth and talent. Then a few years later, we are now drafting to make up for bad picks, not to even further solidify and build the roster.
