Brother, you’re thinking about this all wrong. To the guy who picks head coaches in Big D, all the normal big reasons you hire a HC are not a big consideration to him. Picking a HC who gives us the best chance to win a championship is not even in his top 3 considerations.
In fact, the criteria for the Jones head coaches are based on these 3 critical points:
- Jerry’s personal comfort is most important. Does the candidate allow Jerry to have complete freedom to say or do whatever he chooses without any pushback? (MOST IMPORTANT CRITERIA)
- Is the head coaching candidate willing to be here on a cheap deal, loaded with incentives rather than cash.
- Is the head coaching candidate low in charisma and have little or no media savvy?
If the candidate can meet these three criteria, they are a serious candidate. If not, forget it.
The idea that Jerry Jones would pick a head coach that would seriously give us the BEST chance to win a championship is not that important to him. He doesn’t think like a man driven to win. He is driven to always be the center of the Cowboys universe.
