Schotty's challenges

That was not what my post was about. Once again, you do your crap against me on every post.

To fans, meddling is calling plays, interfering with game day management. Yes he did some bone head things, as Iposted, the TO thing, Williams trade.

It is more if his sideline circus stuff that he needs to stop. But players and coaches can tune that out if they really want to.

Comprehend what I post for once instead of constantly attacking me.

You are the one that needs to get a grip on reality. Stop throwing out those insults at me as you always do.

Just do not respond do my posts anymore. All you want to do is come at me for stupid stuff.
Its not coming at you.

The guy meddles. Its there for all to see.

He tells coaches who to play for Pete sake.

Just ask Brice Butler and Cole Beasley.

I've watched the Cowboys play on TV for at least 50 years and lived in Dallas 13 of those, so I've seen this problem over and over. For me, the number 1 item for Shotty to try to control is player ego (ENTITLEMENT - I'm a DALLAS COWBOY). It's so easy for these players to get caught up in success and history, no matter how small, the media just pumps the team full of hopium, hype and the enigma of past history - which none of these players have earned.

Many times, they trot out on the field, you can just sense that they think they have it all under control as if the opponent is just going to lay down for them. Latest great example was the Green Bay azz-kicking they got in the playoffs. It takes a really strong HC to corral this issue - and only 3 HC's in the teams history could handle it - Landry, Johnson & Parcells. I hope Shotty can handle it.

Biggest challenge
I've had my teeth whitened and I earn 1/100th (or less) than Jerry........someone get him the number of a local dentist, tell him its not millions of dollars and get those horrible yellow pegs fixed.

Parcells has always stated that Jerry was 100% Fantastic, Fantastic! Remove TO from those Cowboys teams, how many yards, catches, touchdowns would you have eliminated? Bringing TO to the Cowboys was an absolute brilliant signing, Parcells even gave him a Kiss on National TV.

Brian Schottenheimer is understandably excited about being an NFL head coach, especially of such a storied franchise. And he should be. He’s the 10th man to ever have the privilege to be head coach in Big D.

But being a rookie HC in the NFL has major challenges, which I posted on earlier this spring. NFL rookie HCs from 2008-21 in their 1st year have had a combined winning percentage of .447, or average winning about 7 games. Doesn’t mean that will happen this year in Dallas, just pointing out the NFL averages.

From 2021-2024, there have been 17 rookie head coaches in this league and only 4 of them led their teams to the playoffs in year one as a rookie NFL HC. Unless you inherit a great roster, it’s hard.

Here are the biggest challenges I think Schotty faces as a rookie HC:

  • The learning curve of managing the game. Clock management, timeouts, when to go for it on 4th down and managing game situations. It isn’t easy. To his credit, he has assigned a coach on the sideline to help him on that.
  • Being a playcaller and HC. Exactly half the league - 16 teams - have their HC calling plays. It’s hard to call plays and be an effective HC.
  • Having a meddlesome owner. Don’t need to re-litigate all this. Schotty will need lots of support to be successful in year one with minimal distractions. We aren’t exactly off to a great start on that front, lol.
  • Managing an all new coaching staff. New OC, new DC, and we have our 4th DC in 6 years; 3rd in 3 years. A lot of new to manage.
None of this ensures failure or success. Ultimately, Brian Schottenheimer will determine his own fate. I’m hoping he has enough support from those around him. Schotty is a good communicator which I think will help. In that sense, he’s off to a good start. But man he has a lot to learn!

Being a rookie head coach in the NFL is hard. Here’s hoping Schotty learns quickly.
I thought you were talking about his actual challenges on the field. Because he challenged a catch by a Rams WR that was clearly a catch. Why are you challenging that?

Rags when it comes to TO (or other big star players we’ve had) I always look at how many playoff games we won while they were on the team. We never won a single playoff game with Terrell Owens on the roster from 2006-08. In 2008, we didn’t even make the playoffs.

No question TO was talented and produced big numbers. But Parcells was clearly not wanting him on the roster for whatever reason. Parcells retired after one year with TO. Not saying it was 100% because of that but it was a factor.

Parcells retired due to his brother dying during the season, I don’t believe TO had any influence on that. In fact Parcells had lots of fun with the whole TO dynamic, that’s who Parcells was just as he called his #1 draft pick with the Patriots Terry Glenn, She. Parcells was getting old for the grind unfortunately, we missed him in his prime.

Jazz a lot of Jerry’s meddling is pretty obvious.
  • Making statements in public before checking with his HC (“Greg Hardy won’t be suspended”, “Zeke will not receive discipline”) Or giving up injury info before a game. Just to name a few.
  • Holding post game pressers literally at the same time as his HC.
  • Having an open door policy with players which undermines the HC.
  • Signing players his HC didn’t want or didn’t know was even happening. (TO with Parcells; Trey Lance with Big Mac)
  • Allowing tours to be done in the practice facilities (even during the playoffs) Former players have spoken about this.
  • Refusing to let certain coaches meetings happen without his presence. (Saw this in tv show “All or Nothing” about the 2017 season)
  • Landing a helicopter right in the middle of a team practice.
These examples are just the ones we can see. Bill Parcells and Jimmy have both said things about Jerry meddling. Parcells was subtle. Jimmy wasn’t.
It’s really sad we actually have fans who don’t see the meddling he does. It’s not even worth responding.

It’s like societal discussions. Simply can’t reach some people. Facts or evidence most see doesn’t impact their thinking process. Like a cult .

And they’ll keep defending this mess slurping it up thinking they are greater fans.

That’s your opinion and that’s fine.

It still part of what “meddling” means. And btw the way he described it was not him attending meetings, it was the HC meeting with him directly to discuss game planning, as if they don’t have enough to prepare for.

Think other owners do that? Is it the main problem? Maybe not, but it doesn’t help, and the results aren’t good enough to defend any of it.
I’d like to hear from one of these defenders of our owner who believe Jethro’s involvement is in the best interest of Cowboys Football.

when i had teeth, i tried to keep em white

The hard part about being aggressive is if your team is really good, you can afford to take more chances. If not it can backfire. We will see what this team is soon.
Just please don’t be as aggressive as Dumb Dan in Detroit. He’s already cost them 1 championship.

I’ve never heard fans claiming our owners meddling issues were game day management. In fact except for some rare cases I’d argue that’s not where he meddles at all. At least we don’t have much evidence of it.

No, you totally must have missed Bill being against TO in the locker room. And the fact Jethro undermine his authority.

It was definitely a contributing factor to Bill leaving early. Not just TO but Jethro’s increased meddling. Now whether there were other outside factors obviously a possibility.

You may not believe that but there was ample evidence while it unfolded.

Jerry saw that he had a good roster built and had a QB in place and was like, ‘thanks, I’ll take it from here.’

It was like forcing your girl to break up with you by being a *******.

Took him three years to ruin that and to hire Garrett (his handpicked next Landry lol) who called it a “process” to fix. Really?
