I'm in the minority on this
Dont like him. We saw what he had with his 3 games in 2015 and putting this as nicely as I can.....he sucked. Appeared lost with no control of the team-just didnt play like a leader. It was hard to differentiate between him and Cassell. Hoping one of the camp bodies can somehow beat him out

There is enough talent on this team that the Cowboys can win games with Moore. What most teams can't sustain is a backup QB playing for long stretches, unless there is a rising young backup. Backups are backups for a reason and as I look through the list of backup QBs there is only a handful I believe could be slightly better options.

I guess this is fine. If Dak goes out for the year, I think I'd like the high pick that we'd end up getting.

Well, as for stats in those 3 games he played 2015. 58.7 comp %. 4 tds, 6 ints. 71 qb rating. And the big game vs Wash when he threw around 400 yds, was against a depleted secondary with majority of their starters out.

More luck than accurate.
Analysis
Strengths
Moore is a strong leader and very poised in the pocket and under pressure. He has a quick pass set that is balanced and under control. He gets rid of the ball quickly and picks his spots effectively, although his release is slightly a 3/4 sidearm. He has all the intangibles and is a very accurate thrower both short and long. He understands route progressions and how to put touch on the ball. He will scan the field and locate his second and third options. This is a quarterback that is under control.

Ok, but 58% comp with 4 tds to 6 ints isn't exactly my kind of accuracy. That read was for his draft bio. I am talking his NFL accuracy.

That wasn't the best season for any Dallas Cowboys QB

1 Cassel, Matt QB
8 119 204 58.3% 25.5 1276 6.3 159.5 5 7 70.6 54 26.5% 51 9 0 14 86 2 0
2 Romo, Tony QB
4 83 121 68.6% 30.3 884 7.3 221.0 5 7 79.4 46 38.0% 39 3 1 6 35 1 1
3 Moore, Kellen QB
3 61 104 58.7% 34.7 779 7.5 259.7 4 6 71.0 40 38.5% 36 6 1 5 23 0 0
4 Weeden, Brandon QB
4 71 98 72.4% 24.5 738 7.5 184.5 2 2 92.1 35 35.7% 67 3 0 8 62 0 0
Weeden had a QBR that was better but his yards for 4 games was less then Moores yards for only three games

3 Moore, Kellen QB

3 61 104 58.7% 34.7 779 7.5 259.7 4 6 71.0 40 38.5% 36 6 1 5 23 0 0
4 Weeden, Brandon QB
4 71 98 72.4% 24.5 738
I know Weeden is crap but we kept Moore and his yards show he can throw mid range passes with accuracy
Moore can be ready to come into a game with little to no warm up time. Not a bad quality to have in an emergency

So, he believes in Moore as a backup, not a starter .. got it :D

Let's not kid ourselves...Dak gets special priviledge. Media may not want to acknowledge it...but it's true. And if it wasn't for that....We'd have a QB controversy. I don't know how a guy can throw for 435yards and 3tds in his 2nd home start....yet still not get a shot @ starting. People say you can't lose your starting spot because of injury....So if Moore was your second string QB last year...and the top guy retires....Why shouldn't he be able to compete for the starting job? Just saying...

Again, he did that vs a depleted Wash secondary.

he will never be a starter but a back up
Then there is no reason to spend time developing him. I don't think he's actually a viable back up given his lack of arm strength. I do think that the team believes that he could eventually be a useful position coach, or more.

It's amazing if you keep hearing the same thing a 1000 times...it must be true. Don't listen to the media...Fake news.

Moore was never the second string quarterback last year. He was injured as a backup before the season started with his position on the depth chart still undecided and he was put on IR.

This season, he will be the temporary second string quarterback. If Dak goes down for the season, Romo will be here within a week and hopefully Moore will only lose the one or two games he starts until Romo is ready. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Moore third string on the depth chart when the season starts.
