Thanks for making my point.

In that game, had the passing in the second half led to more points and a win, I doubt that you nor anyone else would be saying that the play calling was an issue. The assessment by fans as to whether play calling is good is largely based on the result, nothing else.

While that maybe true of some fans, it is a generalization. Throughout wins and losses I've seen valid critiques of play-calls that converted and those that didn't. Checkout a game-day thread before the results can be qualified; you will see on the fly criticism of play-calling that doesn't' seem to make sense for the situation. Play-calling is also a large factor in time management, and I think you will at least agree that there can be noticeable improvement on that front, new offensive talent notwithstanding.

I'm suggesting that Romo had to dump it off or get pummeled and it was more often not a called play.

So running a 3 yard out on a 3rd and 10 with Witten, who isn't a YAC stud, isn't a play calling issue? I can't even remember how many times that happened last year. Why even run that route when you pretty much know Witten won't pick up 7 yards running? It was extremely frustrating last year

Is running a draw play in those situation poor play? yet a lot of teams do that as well. Sometimes the only target the QB has is the man under the sticks and instead of risking an int he will go to the underneath throw. Most pass plays have more than 1 option to it the QB has to make the read
