ARLINGTON, Texas – Twelve quick thoughts on the Cowboys’ 31-17 win against the Bears, as seen from my perch inside the pressbox at AT&T Stadium. Read

  • It was not surprising that Ezekiel Elliott had the type of game he did. With much of the talk during the week centering on his lack of maturity, Elliott was looking to prove those critics wrong and for one night he was able to do just that. I thought he carried the ball with a purpose, especially on those inside runs where in previous weeks things had been a little muddy for him. He had more runs where he was going forward and that had a lot to do with the way he was finishing his runs.

He did what every receiver would do - tried to turn 40 yards into 50, and as happens often, fumbled while fighting for that extra yardage.

We saw Beasley do it last season against the Giants, and we've seen Dez do it at least once, too. Of course, people will conveniently forget those incidents.

TWill had a good game but his various laps in concentrations [ last week not ending out of bounds]
body catching ect. ect. has made him a serial killer.

not really. it's just that both beasley and dez produce more than twill so when twill gets one of his few opportunities these days to do something good and he jacks it up - yes it magnifies the rest of his poor play this year.

Beasley has theee games of "producing more than t will" (well 2 since t will had 88 to his 73) and is notorious for pushing for extra. T will got stripped at the tail end of a tremendous play nothing more

Take away the two long runs by Jeremy Langford and Jordan Howard for 59 yards and the Bears had 13 carries for 14 yards. I have to admit that I was worried about the Bears committing to the run for the game, but the large lead the Cowboys were able to build took them right out of that.

Seriously? "Take away runs" now?

Sorry, but the fact is that the Cowboys once again gave up the 4.8 yards per rush that they have so far this season, keeping them among the worst in the league. And yes, that means that not only can this defensive line not sack the quarterback, but they don't stop the run well either.

And these results aren't even against good lines or running games either. Unless these issues get fixed, this team will be in for some really rough days.

"I think Byron Jones is better in coverage than what we saw from him against Zach Miller this evening. Miller did a nice job of working by just being more physical than Jones in his routes. On his first touchdown, I liked Jones’ positioning off the line, but Miller was able to get into his body and push him out of the way. Jones has done a nice job working against those physical tight ends but Miller just got the best of him in this matchup."

Jones was a stud last night. Sometimes you're where you need to be and the offense can still fit it in there. But he was a blanket on whoever he was covering and made a few big plays as well.

Need a #2 WR in the draft or in free agency this offseason.

They really should not bring him back IMO. And I was a big Williams fan but he's just way too inconsistent at this point.

They Bears might have the best guard combo in the league.

He's not really wrong. Every team will break off a long run or two in a game. Unless your an elite run defense (which we aren't), those runs happen to most defenses. But I will say you're right, the run defense has to get better.

They were actively picking on Claiborne. There was a series where just about every pass went to whoever he was defending. He held up well enough, but seems teams still think he's the weakest link in coverage.
