Anyone who thinks Sidney Rice is better than Dwayne Bowe is delusional.

Sidney Rice has a big bag of nothing. He is a 2nd round pick that is a project.

Dwayne Bowe is a clear 1st round prospect.

I really, really wish I could understand the hard-on some of you have for Sidney Rice... but I take solace in that I don't see anything in him to put him in the 1st round and neither do most of the experts.

Edit: to expand on that a litte: Rice is thin and weak and doesn't have good speed. He is going to have to get stronger and put on weight. What is that going to do to his speed? Just to get to an acceptable level, he will have to put on 15+ pounds. For a guy who already lacks explosiveness and speed, adding weight will just slow him down more. He already doesn't give you ANYTHING after the catch in college, so what is he going to do in the NFL? Furthermore, he only played 2 years and should have played more. He needs a lot of work on route-running. He is a developmental project. Will he master route-running and the nuances of playing WR in the NFL? Maybe. But even if he could, his lack of speed and explosiveness and game-breaking ability means he has a very high bust factor.

I'm not sure how that negates the argument, but ok.

Sure. Let's take a look at common opponents.

Mississippi State:
Bowe - 5 catches for 95 yards and 1 TD.
Rice - 2 catches for 13 yards and 0 TDs.

Auburn:
Bowe - 4 catches for 54 yards and 0 TDs.
Rice - 4 catches for 48 yards and 0 TDs.

Kentucky:
Bowe - 6 catches for 111 yards and 3 TDs.
Rice - 1 catch for 15 yards and 0 TDs.

Tennessee
:
Bowe - 6 catches for 89 yards and 1 TD.
Rice - 3 catches for 52 yards and 0 TDs.

Arkansas:
Bowe - 5 catches for 68 yards and 0 TDs.
Rice - 7 catches for 126 yards and 1 TD.

Florida:
Bowe - 6 catches for 50 yards and 0 TDs.
Rice - 7 catches for 72 yards and 0 TDs.

Total Stats for Common Opponents:
Bowe - 32 catches for 488 yards and 5 TDs.
Rice - 24 catches for 326 yards and 1 TD.

----------

You're right. How could possibly not see that Rice is 10 times better than Bowe?

great stuff can you do this with Meachem too.. please

The mock today from GBN doesn't have Rice going in the first 3 rounds.

He has
1st Round
2 Detroit Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
17 Jacksonville Ted Ginn WR Ohio State
22 Dallas Dwayne Bowe WR LSU
23 Kansas City Dwayne Jarrett WR Southern California
25 New York Jets Robert Meacham WR Tennessee
30 San Diego Steve Smith WR Southern California

2nd Round

37 Chicago Craig Davis WR LSU
45 Carolina Anthony Gonzales WR Ohio State
60 Miami Jason Hill WR Washington State
64 Tampa Bay Aundrae Allison WR East Carolina

3rd Round
72 Minnesota Paul Williams WR Fresno State
76 San Francisco Johnnie Lee Higgins WR UTEP
81 New York Giants Mike Walker WR Central Florida
88 New Orleans David Clowney WR Virginia Tech

So GBN has 14 WRs going in the first 3 rounds and Rice isn't one of them.

I could definitely see him slipping into the 3rd. I think he should be rated along with Allison and Paul Williams at around the 9-11 WR in the draft.

If Nelson, Branch, Moss and Spencer are on the board and we pick Bowe I am going to be pissed. there is excellent value to be had in the second with guys like Huggins, Smith, Gonzalez, Williams and Hill.

To me passing on Branch who would come in and contribute immediately would be a huge mistake. Branch is not one of the 305 lbs Spears types who rely on quickness that tend to bust. Hes a 330 lbs mauler in the mold of Hampton and Wilfork.

But Meachem didn't have two other receivers taking away his production. Bowe had Davis, a 2nd rounder, and Doucet, a 1st rounder next year, taking away some catches. Also, you could compare their common opponents for 3 years, and I suspect it would be vastly in Bowe's favor.

The flip-side of that would be that Meachem probably is constantly taking on the #1 corners of the other teams, whereas Bowe more than likely had quite a few matchups against the #2 and #3 CBs, due to his teammates' prowess as recievers.

I'm not disputing your point, and I think it's certainly valid when comparing collegiate production. I'm just playing Devil's advocate.

Maybe. I think with Bowe and Meachem you've got pretty equivalent talents, both physically and production-wise. We're just splitting hairs. I think both will be productive in the NFL, but I like Bowe because of his aggression and willingness to go over the middle, but of which I've seen Meachem criticized for.
