Scruggs: Stop Talking About the Cowboys 'Window'

we won 12 games with a defense with less quality personnel in 2014 than the one we had in 2015. Last year's record was a result of bad offense caused by Romo's absence. The defense kept the team in just about every game.

And what about all the years we went 8-8 when Romo was healthy?

Stop Talking About the Cowboys 'Window'

By Newy Scruggs

I get tired of hearing about the Cowboys approach to the 2016 NFL Draft should be about the club’s “window”. My twitter page gets loaded up with comments like that.

Or the whole take advantage of the “window” of quarterback Tony Romo argument for the justification of passing on a signal caller with the fourth overall pick.

4-12 teams don’t have a Super Bowl window.

Jason Garrett has coached the Cowboys for five full seasons and generated just one winning year.

That does not make a “window" friends.

Don’t give me the “If Romo and Dez are healthy” argument, either.

Typical hater comments. If you don't want to hear it then don't listen.

they projected over 9 wins last season they won four this team and organization is much closer to 4 and 12 than it is 12 and 4 until they can prove to me on a consistent year after year basis that they are yearly contenders I think what you have seen over the last five years is who they are.

Another ignorant fan who has only 4-12 to understand. There's much more to life than just waking up.

Derp Newy...derp, derp.

Take anyones top two players out of the Offense and they will lose, especially if it's a QB. Rogers losing Nelson was a inside fast ball Greenbay couldn't dodge and when Gronk hit the ground so did the production for the best QB in the league.

In a weak QB Draft, Dallas has problems that can be fixed and they should be. The first two picks better be starting from day 1 kind of choices, not warming a clipboard for 3 years.

Difference makers that will see the field every single game from the beginning of the season. Bosa and Buckner are immediate starters at #4 that build for the future in a big way, even after Romo is done.

Romo with his soon to be inserted plate won't be playing all 16 games for the next 3 years. The guy holding a clipboard will get experience learning from Romo and when he's injured again, get game experience.

Hmmm...wonder if this is "Typical hater comments".

Probably the same people filling up Scruggs' Twitter page. As for "don't like it, don't read them", how about if you don't like what he has to say on HIS Twitter page, don't comment?

With the opportunity at 4 overall to avoid 2015 altogether in the future? Win win. Draft a QB, or leapfrog CLE/SD and get your first choice. This D choices @ this pick comes to either Bosa (same position as DLaw), a MLB (while resigning Ro?), and a CB/S in Ramsey. Take the QB.

It would cost us as much to trade up with Cleveland to get the No. 1 pick as it would to trade up as an 8-8 team to get the change to get a franchise QB.

I believe if a QB is there at 4 that Dallas values on the same level as other players, then you take him. If he's on a lower level, but close enough that you still believe he's a franchise guy, you take him. But if you question something about his game, then you don't force it just because you're at No. 4. Being at No. 4 gives you the opportunity to take a difference maker and that's the guy Dallas needs to go after, whatever the position.

I also believe if you don't take a QB in the first, you still take one at some point ... because if you can develop your future, you put yourself in the position where you don't have to wait for another 4-12 year or trade up to get your franchise replacement.

Stopped reading, sorry brudda...:Do_O TEN is our primary, CLE/SD will both take QBs and we will be left with none if a team trades up to 1. That is the scenario here.

Sometimes the perspective is lost...football is not a sport to just get better, but a venue to prove who is the toughest.

TEN has the 1st pick...I didn't even finish my thought and you jumped on me that quick? Sarcasm comes off hard on the internet (of course I read the rest)

Jump? I set a maxim on football...and put it on the level of a Bear Bryant just for comparison. That stands the ground aside from other snapshots...that's all.

Oh, and tough was the foundation for the University of Tennessee.

Am I the one just trying to be tough/WINNING or something?

Don't worry...I wasn't asking you to explain to your parents how you lost your virginity...

So you won our debate bc...? Nice try;) Can do loops around you if you want me to...

With free agency and good drafting you should never have a window
If you draft well you can continue to be a playoff caliber team year in and year out barring major injuries killing you
The real key is moving from one franchise QB to the next. Get that right and you can continue to be a playoff team most years and if you are in the playoffs you got a shot

Exactly, it doesn't really matter if there is a "window" or not. If there is and the team is close to getting through it, I doubt Joey Bosa or any other rookies are the catalyst that gets them there. Take the potential franchise QB and hopefully keep that window open for another 10+ years.

But we are getting Scandrick back! Denver, Seattle and Carolina's d better start thinking about moving down a notch,'cause we are on top now!

That may have been our record last year but we don't have a 4-12 roster. From the other thread here is the projected win totals for next year:

Panthers 10.5
Packers 10.5
Patriots 10.5
Steelers 10.5
Seahawks 10.5
Cardinals 9.5
Bengals 9.5
Broncos 9.5
Cowboys 9
Chiefs 9
Vikings 9

That looks like a possible Super Bowl window to me.

No we do not have a 4 - 12 roster. We also had better rosters during our groundhog day like 8 -8 seasons than the actual records would indicate. We do have other factors in the hierarchy that can't be mentioned in this section of the site that are 4 - 12 material.
