I would agree. It seems like teams are really working the phones and clubs such as ourselves, Browns, Niners and Titans are not married to one player and want to address multiple needs.

I still get the feeling that the Pats will make a major splash and move up for Julio to give Brady a target to throw to for a few years. The same thing was echoed by others here as something that is picking up steam.

The feeling I'm getting

Top 3 seem pretty set:
Carolina: Newton
Denver: Dareus
Buffalo: Von Miller

Is there a reason you feel this will be the top three?

I'm working on my mock for the newspaper I work for, and was reading on a Bills site that a couple of sources say Buffalo is going with Blaine Gabbert.

That could mean absolutely nothing (because I know nothing about their sources), but they are swearing by them.

I see two options for Buf and it's Cam/Von.

I've got Cam going one so Von will be Buf bound.

I have some pretty strong connections to Buffalo. Besides growing up there, it's actually where I got my start. With that said, NOTHING would surprise me in Buffalo. Next to the Raiders and Bengals they might be one of the NFL's most dysfunctional franchises. There is a strong rift among management and staff as to which way to go and even some differences between the staff themselves.

You may be very well right, in the end owner Ralph Wilson may get his way and get the QB but the consensus believes he will let his staff make the decisions. Why this year of all years they decide he will do this I have not yet figured out but knowing Buffalo, we will both end up being wrong.

I got
Carolina - PP or Dareous
Denver - Dareous or
Buffalo - Gabbert - they are looking for the next Jim Kelly - not an undersized Rushing specialist

In the end I cant see Carolina passing on Newton with the #1 pick, ticket sales are down here in Carolina and they are losing fan base. There is just too much pressure from the fans to take a QB.

Man oh man, Thursday cannot get here soon enough. I read this thread when it was just a wee little 3 page thing, and had dreams about the draft that night with Patrick Peterson up on the stage holding up a Cowboys jersey.

That may be true, but if Cleveland is trading down because it has its eye on Julio Jones, there's no other team that has the ability to deliver the potential to still draft the guy they may really want while still picking up extra picks.

There's an advantage to being closer in the trade-down game.

- Still dont think we're taking a QB

- Still dont think we're trading up from 9

- Do think we'll be drafting Marion Barber's replacement (and same player might be Tashard Choice's replacement too)

- Still think we take Tyron Smith with our first pick

I don't have many connections at all, but I know that SDogo's news on Michael Huff is just about as close to a lock for free agency as we're going to get. It is basically a foregone conclusion that he is coming home when the labor situation is resolved. Sensabaugh is also in line to get that multi-year deal he's been wanting too.

I also think Newman will restructure, especially if the lockout is lifted by the courts tomorrow and this year is uncapped. Jerry will look to restructure his deal and front load the majority into this season similar to Miles Austin's extension, making Newman cap-friendly the rest of his career.

The interest there is mutual - Newman wants to retire a Cowboy and the Cowboys want him to.

Next year's draft is supposed to be strong at quarterback, wide receiver, and linebackers. If Dallas was to secure both Sensabaugh and Huff, it would put a major perspective change on the backside of the defense then. Dallas could probably get by with a top of Day Three selection or selection(s).

Myself, I still want a line of scrimmage concentration for this draft.

If Buffalo takes Gabbert, it sets up perfectly for Peterson to fall to #6, since Von Miller will go to Arizona so fast it'll make our heads spin.

Anytime you make a decision based on ticket sales or what the fans want, you have lost. Carolina takes Newton they will regret it. His already huge ego will just get enlarged at being taken first.

Exactly. When ticket sales and jersey sales are your justification for a draft pick--rather than football ability--you're doomed to fail. We see it time and time and time again in the draft. These guys just don't make it.

If you are team in the Cowboys psoiton at QB--not needing imediate help--this year is a strong year for QBs.

There are an unususal number of QBs that could eventually be starters...maybe as many as 8 of them.
There just aren't many (or any?) QBs some would call locks to be franchise guys right away.

The year is very strong at WR too.

I'm not saying we should take either position unless the value is off the charts, but it is a decent year for both of those lower priority positions.

No arguing those aspects. The biggest deficit in positional group, and with time urgency, are secondary, offensive and defensive line. If one delays taking care of rotting wood, then more has to be replaced. This draft is very concentrated in quality defensive line and offensive line, but in the top three rounds. That is what it is also...it is wisdom also, to use the iron when it is hot.

Thanks. I did not know if you had solid "evidence" that Miller was going to be the pick or that it just looked like it was lining up that way.

Like I said, I don't know if the two people on the message board actually had sources or were just pretending to, but they seemed pretty adamant.

From what I've read, the GM and coach in Carolina are pretty much sold on Newton. But, of course, there's a lot of misinformation out there this time of year.
