The equipment issue is interesting because its not really a materials issue as much as a physical space issue. How big do we really want to make helmets.... I've started to agree with the less is more line of thinking. I think the game would be played in a much safer manor if helmets weren't used at all.
I don't I think the tougher/crazier guys would be in higher demand and everybody would have broken noses and breathing problems

Dang, ok then kill it now and save us the pain of watching it slowly die.

Or pour money into safety equipment R&D that allows the game to be played the way it was meant to, where shots like Tate's happen and ESPN can have the damn you got *** up son segment or whatever it was called.

I think you may be getting confused here. I did not say I liked all of the changes. I didn't even say you had to like them. I said you need to get right with the fact that they are here to stay.

If you would rather stop investing in the sport because of it, I understand. See ya around.

Golden Tate's take on the Cowboys
Bob Holtzman ESPN
i

Just had an interesting conversation with Lions WR Golden Tate about the Dallas defense. Tate told me the Cowboys are "a very, very good team, but are they all-world? Not so much." When I asked him to clarify, Tate again called the Cowboys "a really, really good team" but said "I think they have some flaws." I don't think it was Tate's intention to create bulletin board material, but he may have.

Sean Lee will have his revenge when Pro Bowl selection is irrelevant because he is playing in the Super Bowl.

I love it when people tell other people to know the rules, even become indignant, yet, they don't know what they arre talking about themselves.

1) Spearing as defined by the NFL, comes from the crown of the helmet. Tate was head up, and never used the top of his helmet. As you would say. "Jesus"

2) Launching, as defined by the NFL, requires a player to leave both of his feet with the purpose of springing. Tate's feet never left the ground. Again , "Jesus"

3)There was never a hit to the head. Even Lee said the hit was to the chest. Yep... "Jesus"

Cmon man!!!

Now with all that being said, the NFL still fined Tate for an illegal blindside block. Was it? Probably. But still debatable. The issue was the celebration by a 180lb punk getting the better of Lee on that play. Make the hit and keep playing without bringing attention to yourself.

Know the rules, or don't tell people to know the rules.

You're on dope. You can see the hit to head (and his head fly backwards) the damn video.

Put your crackpipe down.

That wasn't blindside. He hit him right in the chest numbers. Lee just wasn't looking.

I'd have taken that shot 10 times out of 10. And I'd have celebrated it, too, if I landed it. Lee just didn't see it coming, which sucks, but that's football.

If you slow the video down, he hits him in a way to come up under his chin strap. The angle he hit him wasn't meant to be "on the numbers", it was meant to drive into his helmet.

If you pause it, his helmet is basically making contact with his chin.

Most of us would probably have been knocked out. And the reason that's illegal, is because any defender could accidentally kill guys if they allowed defenders to come under chinstraps. Imagine Bobby Wagner coming under Dez' chinstrap immediately after a catch, it'd make the Lockett hit look like peewee football. Probably end Dez' career.

If the Cowboys were a dirty team and this was the 70's, I don't think Tate would make it out of this game alive. That's why we have rules.

I'd love to see Lee blindside Tate's 5'10 body like that, except in that case Tate's head might physically leave his body. Tate wants to act cocky, if a 235 pound guy did that to him, there'd be serious concern that he ever actually plays again. See Lockett, and that was a clean hit.

You are right.

All the people claiming Tate didn't launch the crown of his helmet up under Lee's chin apparently don't have YouTube available to them or something. But I do.

Focus on the sequence from 36 seconds to 41 seconds in the video above and tell me where the top of Tate's helmet goes.

You can't get dirtier than that.

Tate's offense. The defense just waits in the weeds and ambushes this turd. Eye for an eye.

Right. I meant after the play.

It just comes off as whiny if you're defense and you have to do some extra curricular activity because the offensive guy laid you out.

I don't think they got many more chances after that because we were already down big.

Dude take off the blue glasses for the sake of not being typical. Even Lee said the helmet was "right in the middle of my shoulder" . The NFL agreed, the Boyz agreed, and Lee agreed. Lee continued by saying "that's football, and the celebration is football. A crack back doesn't mean your tough, anyone can do it , but it's part of playing"

Believe me. Lee is my favorite player on the team, I'm not taking this stance for any reason. .

I don't see why that's a cheap shot? That's a nasty good block on Tates part.

I agree its not cheap shot. He didn't go at Lee head and didn't lead with helmet. Its clean old school hit. But that doesn't mean Lee can't do equally clean devastating hit back.

Sean Lee gets his first opportunity to face Golden Tate since that cheapshot. I don't doubt for a second that he's forgot that hit. Add to the fact that he just got snubbed from the Pro Bowl? Wouldn't wanna be Tate on Monday night.

Barry Church vowed to get revenge on Tate for Lee in the playoff game vs. Detroit in 2015 (Lee wasn't healthy), but that never happened. I actually made a hype vid for that match-up vs. DET, where you can see how smug Golden Tate is:

I hate to say it because I love Sean Lee but that was a masterful block by Tate!

Tate is a big fan of "good clean hits", so he'll be happy to know the rest of us are, too. Football fans know there is a fine line between "good and clean" and "unnecessary roughness" or "hitting a defenseless receiver", but in this particular game we can actually absorb the penalty quite easily if we don't quite get it right. In a game in which we already have the number one seed locked up, one could even say erring on the side of caution just isn't a real priority. Here's to the Boys delivering some good, clean hits Monday night! :)

I wouldn't mind the Cowboys limit him the next 2 weeks ... as long as he earned all his bonus money, he is the one player we can least afford to lose on defence, and I don't worry about rust when it comes to sean lee.

The issue was with Tate's celebrating while Lee was down. Cowboys of the 70s or 90s would have ended Tate's season that day.
That was my issue if i am not mistaken he did some sort of dog crawl or something thats what pissed me off
