...Maliek McDowell. Just got cut. Never suited up and played a snap. MONUMENTAL reach of a draft pick and never sniffed the field. EVERYONE on here who claims Pete Carrol is somehow a draft savant needs to smell the coffee. Over the past several years they haven't drafted worth a bleep! MAYBE at one time he was good evaluating guys, but not lately. Seattle is in ruins because of draft decisions like this one. Dallas should take a moment and realize we need to do the same with Chaz Green. Lazy and out of condition isn't the description you want for a player.

I agree with the overall sentiment of this post (cutting players who are carrying dead weight) but your context and framing is a bit off.

Re: McDowell, he was a second rounder, not a first rounder, and I’d hardly call him a reach (outside of hindsight). He was a physical freak and universally considered a first round talent.

Re: Chaz Green, he’s an interesting case to me in that we may have done more harm to him than good by switching his position from T to G, then putting him back at T. He looked solid in limited action in 2016 before his notorious showing last year.

All of that notwithstanding, I do agree that we need to be a little more aggressive on roster decisions.

To add, the dude was seriously hurt in an accident and may not ever play football again, and that is why he never sniffed the field.

Moral of the post is Seattlehas been pretty woeful over the last 3-4 years drafting. The coaching has been less than stellar offensively. Richard Sherman speaks to this more than once. MANY former players say the same thing about the HC. They all cant be wrong.

yes..I know this..but understand he failed a physical at the combine due to a HEART ISSUE. Yet they still drafted him very hIgh. SHAME ON THEM

Same guy who drafted a 1 handed LB.
YUP...good point. Its a nice feel good story, but thats about all it is. This is the NFL. No teams will take pity on the kid. He will be a fringe special teamer and fan fave, no doubt...but that will be it.

he was damaged goods from the very beginning. MANY teams heading into the draft, prior to the heart condition being found, were questioning his drive, love of the game and off field decisions. So seattle got what they deserved. THIS IS ON THE HC.

Unless I have my teams mixed up, which is entirely possible with my advancing age, it was the alcoholic draft guru that was responsible for their stellar drafting years ago.

He was q very good prospect but had an ATV accident if I recall correctly. I think concussion symptoms never progressed
He had a history of issues..medical and otherwise...WELL KNOWN. Too bad that happened to the kid, but it goes back to not being level headed. The pick was a major snafu from the outset.

point is every team knew he was damaged goods in many ways. He was way over drafted. Many felt he shouldnt be drafted, period.

forsure I can attest to concussions being way unpredictable. SOME you can recover from in a couple days..others take weeks or even months. OTHERS...NEVER. My teenage son took 2 months to recover frome one..so we lived that. WAS SCARY. He won't be playing football again.

I agree completely. The point I was trying to make was in response to your comment that Pete may have been a good talent evaluator at one time. I think the other guy, whose name escapes me at the moment, was more responsible for their good drafting IMHO, so old Pete may have never been very good at drafting on his own. It was a comment that was supposed to support your comment.

How can you blame Pete for drafting a guy who suffers a crazy injury post draft?

Injuries in college or not, the reason why he was cut was cause he injured his head POST DRAFT from an ATV accident. P.C. can't predict that.

Seattle has been a poor drafter/retainer of talent since 2012. Throwing away first rounders for Graham and Harvin had terrible ROI.

Think only Lockett and Clark have had decent years with them after that 2012 class.
