Seattle cuts 1st round draft pick from 2017

How can you blame Pete for drafting a guy who suffers a crazy injury post draft?

Injuries in college or not, the reason why he was cut was cause he injured his head POST DRAFT from an ATV accident. P.C. can't predict that.

Seattle has been a poor drafter/retainer of talent since 2012. Throwing away first rounders for Graham and Harvin had terrible ROI.

Think only Lockett and Clark have had decent years with them after that 2012 class.
How can I Blame Pete? HE WAS ARMED WITH ALL THE INFO ON THIS KID..THE HEART ISSUES..THE OTHER "HEART" issues on the field,if you get my drift. The kid makes Randy Gregory look like a choir boy. Most had him a late round pick or an UDFA after it became known he had a risky heart issue. He already had issues ON THE FIELD...so ATV accident aside, he was never going to pan out IMO. It was a losing bet from the beginning. I feel the same about Chaz Green.

I get ya. But his talent(potential) was also near All-pro level had he panned out.
Can't say I agreed with PC taking him that high but at the same time risks like that either pan out great or backfire.
Just don't think a GM/HC should get a lot of the brunt when the player does something risky and throws his career away post draft. Wasn't like he was known to injury himself on ATVs beforehand lol

His heart condition alone should have been all the info they needed to steer clear. Not to mention his on the field taking plays off. It was a losing proposition, from the beginning.

The seahawks demise is due to poor drafting over the last 4 years...and piss poor trades. They moved away from their bread and butter(DEFENSE) and SPECIAL TEAMS. The best move we made this offseason was hiring the defensive architect of the legion of boom..KRIS RICHARD. He was the real architect, not PETE.

Or trade CG to Seattle for ET.

Right, and I'll trade my girlfriend for Shakira, the problem is, that's never going to happen. I'm assuming you were just joking.

Moral of the post is Seattlehas been pretty woeful over the last 3-4 years drafting. The coaching has been less than stellar offensively. Richard Sherman speaks to this more than once. MANY former players say the same thing about the HC. They all cant be wrong.

Pete Carrol has always been the same. He didn't just magically become some genius. He is an average run of the mill coach like he's always been. But sometimes coaches just step into a steaming pile of crap and have a roster that can't lose provided the coach isn't a complete idiot. Barry Switzer proved that in '95.

WELL SUMMED UP.

WELL SUMMED UP.
The "accident" or move Pete made to hire Kris Richard was like him finding a 4 leaf clover honestly. THAT DUDE has an "it" factor. He will be a HC someday. Players respect him and listen. Not because of what he did as a pro player...but HOW HE COACHES. IT ALL WORKS. Pete is who he has always been...he has a philosophy which is that of a riverboat gambler and 9 times outta ten...it fails. What saved his bacon over the years was his teams' defenses. So he could afford to get away with massive coaching mistakes. In the SB when he passed from the 1..that was proof positive that when you gamble against an elite team with elite coaching, you will lose 100% of the time. Everyone will see Pete for what he is this year with out studs on defense and no running game/oline. Losing Kris Richard was a HUGE LOSS. Words cannot express just how huge, but it will be woefully evident during the 2018 season. Glad to have him here in Dallas. We are blessed to have a proven winner on our staff paired with Marinelli.

In politically liberal Seattle this was seen as a positive. A real "feel good" action.
HEY don't get me wrong...the kid will be a great addition ,but mainly on special teams and in dime packages. Its more of a PR move than anything because lets face it, Seattle is dying on the vine and void of much positivity with all the player losses and the loss of Kris Richard. They needed this kid..so I get it. That said, they had a pitiful draft...and the outlook is bleak.

On this politically neutral () forum, there were PLENTY of cowboy fans asking (begging) to draft said one handed player and saw it "as a positive "

So I'm not sure what "politically liberal" has to do with it and why people with an agenda keep bringing up this sort of trash

...Maliek McDowell. Just got cut. Never suited up and played a snap. MONUMENTAL reach of a draft pick and never sniffed the field. EVERYONE on here who claims Pete Carrol is somehow a draft savant needs to smell the coffee. Over the past several years they haven't drafted worth a bleep! MAYBE at one time he was good evaluating guys, but not lately. Seattle is in ruins because of draft decisions like this one. Dallas should take a moment and realize we need to do the same with Chaz Green. Lazy and out of condition isn't the description you want for a player.
He had luck like Jimmy coming right out of college. He scouted most of the guys coming out in the draft. Now he's several years removed from that connection.

that is a REALLY solid assessment. Hadn't thought of it in those terms. That makes sense in many ways. By the time Jimmy J got to Miami, he had lost touch with college players and such..so it became much more of a crap shoot for him drafting and trading. I think your right, that's where ole Pete is right now in his coaching career.

Pete Carroll was able to build the Seahawks because the year before he coached college and was able to evaluate all the good players and had an idea of who he wanted. Kinda like insider tips.

Read an article claiming he was a first rounder...I will check that out
Close enough
He was their 1st pick, but it was after they traded down to the top of the 2nd round to take him at pick 35.

I agree with the overall sentiment of this post (cutting players who are carrying dead weight) but your context and framing is a bit off.

Re: McDowell, he was a second rounder, not a first rounder, and I’d hardly call him a reach (outside of hindsight). He was a physical freak and universally considered a first round talent.

Re: Chaz Green, he’s an interesting case to me in that we may have done more harm to him than good by switching his position from T to G, then putting him back at T. He looked solid in limited action in 2016 before his notorious showing last year.

All of that notwithstanding, I do agree that we need to be a little more aggressive on roster decisions.
As a Seattle fan I didn’t like this pick once I researched it. The guy was a mental midget who took plays off and some of the NFL teams says he was one of the WORST draft interviews they ever had. It was a reach even as a second rounder.

JS and PC at times do get a bit over confident of their abilities at times. They took a big time gamble and lost! I’m glad they run my team, see the Lombardi trophy, but they do have their flaws. However I think the 2017 draft (outside of MM) and the 2018 draft will be good ones in due time time. ....but as always, time will tell.

Sherm was right about many things, wrong about others. Seattle former OC and offensive line coach were HORRIBLE and were the boat anchors for the offense.

Seattle’s offense will be better by subtraction alone by flushing those 2 turds on the offensive coaching staff. The OC cost us a 2nd Lombardi because he was a mental midget that folded under pressure.

yes..I know this..but understand he failed a physical at the combine due to a HEART ISSUE. Yet they still drafted him very hIgh. SHAME ON THEM
Yep, football is mostly about heart, ask Emmitt.....you can't have the Tin Man and expect him to be a major component.

I lost respect for Seattle when they traded a darn good O-lineman and high picks for a TE. You can’t give away your early picks and be successful. They had a system that worked ground and pound and play D then tried to get cute and it all came crashing down. What they should of been looking for is Lynch’s replacement instead they have thrown bandaids at it.
