That is why you have to win the Superbowl when you do make it there. You just aren't promised another chance. The 49ers didn't do it last year and now this year aren't making the trip to the Superbowl. There is no guarantee they make it back next season. Too many variables even for a team that has a lot of talent. Kaepernick may not develop. One of their better defenders(Bowman) may not be ready for next season depending on the severity of his injury. And so on. I think that battle gets tougher each season.
