While my agenda and reason for being there changed, my interests did not. Besides wanting to get a good look first hand at some players I went there with the intention of keeping a hawks eye on the Cowboys staff and with some help from friends we were able to shadow the Cowboys staff pretty well. At one point too well when we were asked by security at the hotel to take a different elevator.:D

For the most part the staff stayed together as a unit as their focus seemed to be centered around the OL and DL. Rob spent a great deal of time following the LB's and DB's while Jason and the offensive staff if not with the OL who occupied a good 80% of their time focused on the RB's and strange enough, the QB's.

I don't remember one instance where the coaches broke off with the WR's during individual drills.

Unlike the Combine, coaches and scouts don't have the access to the players that lets you get a good read on individual interest but if you know what your looking for it's never hard to determine which players are making the scouts and coaches sit up in their seats when the get their reps.

A few things I noticed is that Rob Ryan seemed extremely interested and complimentary of Boston College LB Mark Herzlich. He also offered some sideline coaching to Cal DE Cameron Jordan. Speaking of Jordan, the defensive staff as whole took a special interest in him early in sessions that seemed to infect even the offensive staff by the end of the week.

Brett Maxie seemed to pick up the pace on note taking and was particularity focused on Texas CB Curtis Brown who I also heard was rumored to already be on a short list for a individual visit.

By the end of the week though sources told me that one DB the staff could not stop raving about was North Carolina DB Kendric Burney.

I'm also told the Cowboys really want to get a better look at Arizona DL Brooks Reed who was listed as a Defensive Lineman but at 6'2" 257 showed the agility and athletic ability that could project to OLB.

On the offensive side of the ball it was almost impossible to get a read on what the Cowboys thought about any individual Offensive Lineman. As a whole when they were running drills the staff we very business like giving each player what appeared to be a complete on the job analysis. There was no more energy put into one player then another although despite at first worrying my own desires were influencing me there did seem to be some heightened awareness and note exchanging when the Wisconsin duo of Moffitt and Carimi did anything.

I did get a good read on the QB awareness of Jason Garrett, it was hard to miss. He, Wade Wilson and Wes Phillips were the only staffers watching individual drills. They seemed very interested in Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick. Often mocking his movements after his reps. There also seemed to be an equal amount of interest placed on TCU QB Andy Dalton.

I apologize for some of the generic observations and lack of "first hand" detail but some of my travel partners and "sources" have yet to chime in with their observations. Once I get those I'll start the traditional, "Prospects the Cowboys have shown interest in" thread which is always made better by everyone contributions.

Good stuff.

I imagine the Cowboys may be interested in Moffitt's versatility at G/C.

Not too crazy about Burney, but we do need depth.

I like Brooks Reed, he seems like a Ryan guy. Although it is disturbing seeing the Reed's resemblence to Bobby Carpenter during his days at Ohio State (same #42 and long blonde hair). Fortunately, I've watched Reed and he doesn't mind physical confrontation on the football field.

Nice :D :D - looking forward to that thread.

Can't wait till the combine. The draft cannot come soon enough:star:

Rob Ryan and Mark Herzlich are a match made in heaven IMO. Herzlich is smart intense and versatile playmaker at either the ILB or OLB spots.

God I hope he falls to the Cowboys in the 3rd.

I've been aware of Mark Herzlich for the past two seasons but hadn't gotten a chance to watch him at all this season.

Wes Bunting (who I like) said there wasn't much there when he watched him.

I'm suspicious that this might be another Myron Rolle deal; people fall in love with the story and the person but don't really see how the player projects as a pro.

In Herzlich's favor, he was highly rated two seasons ago and is just coming back to the field after battling cancer. Perhaps this year he's just getting his feet underneath hims again.

I do believe the Burney interest is at depth however he is one of those guys that looked to be a special teams demon so that has to play into it as well. Esp considering they have to figure he is a later round prospect.

Thanks for the info SDogo. :starspin

SDogo, I appreciate all of you efforts and enjoy reading your work.

Thanks

Good post. Thanks for the info. This is much better than the usual media BS.

Interesting stuff about the QBs. Wonder if Garrett wants to a get his guy for the future. Slim pickings, though, seems like

Herlzlich just had cancer dude, it's not really a fair evaluation of Wes Bunting if he thinks there wasn't much there when he watched him. He got stronger as the weeks went by which is a good sign he'll get it all back.

Before the cancer he was rated higher than Patrick Willis was coming out of college. He is nothing like Myron Rolle, Rolle was never thought of as a top 5/10 lock.

Did you see Herzlich during his Jr. year?

thanks buddy, good job, really love reading your reports and thoughts;

I think Curtis Brown has so much upside.

I don't know how smart he is but his athletic ability is nice.

At worst you're getting a Cedric Griffin type.

Thanks for the INFO SDOGO.

I really like the Nevada QB but I think someone is going to snag him early and groom him.

Thanks for the Info!, Jordan is my new petcat, how about Jordon in the 1st, Moffitt in the 2nd and Herlzich in the 3rd?, that would mean fixing the Secondary in FA, with guys like Huff and Eric Wright.

Moffitt in the 2nd is a little high.

If you want a Center/Guard prospect in Round 2 than I think Wiesienewski from Penn State is your guy.

Check this out.

Nice feature Catch.

I'd love me some Wisniewski in round 2.. he'd be a great pick.

Definately.. you know what you're getting with him. Strong, determined, athletic, and a guy who lives to maul people. I don't see how we could make a better pick in the second round. The only concern i'd have is that he won't make it to us, i'd even trade up a few spots to get him though.
