Senior Bowl: Cowboys Observations

I love Wiz, but he's way too smart to play on this OL.

It would be nice to have a guy like that at C but a PSU fan on here says he was AWFUL at C......hence they moved him back to guard.

I'll take him at 41 as a G or C, but I think it takes a miracle for him to fall that far.

Definately.. you know what you're getting with him. Strong, determined, athletic, and a guy who lives to maul people. I don't see how we could make a better pick in the second round. The only concern i'd have is that he won't make it to us, i'd even trade up a few spots to get him though.

Yep.....if you think he's going ahead of you use the extra pick you got in the trade down for Carimi in 1 to move up for Wiz.

Who said he was awful at C? I'd love to meet that bozo.

Moffitt in the 2nd is a little high.

If you want a Center/Guard prospect in Round 2 than I think Wiesienewski from Penn State is your guy.

Check this out.

Hey I'm a PSU fan and was born and raised here, I know about him, he would be a great pick

Wiesienewski is going to anchor an offensive line for the next 15 years for someone. He could be this generations Mark Stepnoski. And don't over look how important those football bloodlines and smarts are. The ability to make calls at the line of scrimmage for blitz pickup is going to be more and more of a premium as blitz packages get perpetually more exotic to counterbalance a league intentionally moving towards a passing, peripheral offense style of play. Are we forced to resign Kosier at a higher premium price than his play would merit simply because he makes the line calls for us, because we have a center who has played 10 years in the league and is still too "slow" to make the calls himself?

I have a feeling the Pats are going to take "Newski" in the 1st round. It's their MO.

I love Cam Jordan, but I wonder if the 49ers will take him just before us. I think it comes down to them taking Amukamara or Jordan.

Herlzlich just had cancer dude, it's not really a fair evaluation of Wes Bunting if he thinks there wasn't much there when he watched him. He got stronger as the weeks went by which is a good sign he'll get it all back.

Before the cancer he was rated higher than Patrick Willis was coming out of college. He is nothing like Myron Rolle, Rolle was never thought of as a top 5/10 lock.

Did you see Herzlich during his Jr. year?

I think I pretty much touched upon everything you said in my first post:

"I've been aware of Mark Herzlich for the past two seasons but hadn't gotten a chance to watch him at all this season. (In other words I watched him

Wes Bunting (who I like) said there wasn't much there when he watched him.

I'm suspicious that this might be another Myron Rolle deal; people fall in love with the story and the person but don't really see how the player projects as a pro.

In Herzlich's favor, he was highly rated two seasons ago and is just coming back to the field after battling cancer. Perhaps this year he's just getting his feet underneath hims again."

Wes Bunting was referring to his Senior Bowl practices and game.

Here's some other quotes:

Pat Kirwan @NFL.Com wrote: Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich deserves all the credit in the world for beating cancer and coming back as a productive player for the Eagles this season, but he just doesn’t possess the speed necessary to succeed in the NFL. He was beaten on the wheel route several times by the running back, and he has no quick twitch.

Wes Bunting @ NFP wrote: It was a pretty “blah” week for the North linebacking squad as Boston College’s Mark Herzlich looked stiff and struggled in coverage for the most part. He also wasn’t real effective as a pass rusher in blitz pick-up drills and overall didn’t do much to write home about in my view.

I actually think Herzlich's a better coverage linebacker than he is as a run-stopper. That may bode well for him here in Dallas because we need a strong coverage-backer.

I wouldn't mind him in the 3rd/4th in the right scenerio.

I do believe the Burney interest is at depth however he is one of those guys that looked to be a special teams demon so that has to play into it as well. Esp considering they have to figure he is a later round prospect.

Yeah, he's definitely a later round prospect to me. I'm just not crazy about the guy's size, 5'9" 181 lbs. Burney has a lot of short-area quickness, but straight speed guy like fellow shrimp Aaron Glenn. In the Senior Bowl, corners aren't not allowed to press, I'm concerned when he gets to the NFL and faces bigger/stronger WRs that beat him at the line (nullifying his one strength) and getting over the top of him.

Wisnieski started as a Guard and was moved to Center because of a shortage of talent at Penn State. I think that whoever said he could not be a good Center is crazy but that's fine. I think he could be an excellent Center if that's what he wanted to do. However, I think his natural position in the NFL will be LG. He's too talented to be a Center IMO. He has way too much mobility and he pulls too well. He is able to hit moving targets on his blocks and would be an ideal pulling guard. I don't think anybody would be disappointed with this guy.

great job man, great info, now the Combine will be next to evaluate them plus interviews and all that... thanks!

Not a surprise you lose some speed when you replace a bone with titanium rod in your lower leg. Still, if people say you need two years to get back to full speed after an ACL injury, Herzlick definitely deserves 2 years of recovery before you really judge what he has left. I think at the very least he could be a tough as nails 2 down downhill Mike ILB, ala Ted Johnson or Brandon Spikes.

The NFL Scouting Advisory board told him he would be a late 1st/early 2nd round pick if he declared as a junior.

Yea, lol. Well im a PSU guy myself, and rest assured, they moved Wiz to center because they had a lack of talent there and they knew he was smart, talented, and capable enough to handle the switch.. even though his natural position is Guard, and that's the spot he has played at throughout his career. He did a solid job at center and again.. earned all conference honors there. They moved him back to guard the following season because they had a capable center and he is most comfortable playing his natural position at guard. He's a very bright guy though, knows all the OL positions and their movements and assignments like the back of his hand, and honestly could play any one of them effectively.

He can learn to play C and work through his snapping issues just like Gurode did.

Difference being Wiz is smart as they come and Gurode is dumb as a rock.

See my latest mock.

My only question with Wiz is his strength at the POA. I don`t know anything about him and I didn`t watch any games , but some scouting reports say he is weak at the POA and can be pushed back. Is that a problem ? I honestly don`t know. I`m all about the OL , but this is one prospect that I need to look at.
