So are we going to hear this for the rest of our lives? On who we should've picked? Is it going to take Escobar being a Pro Bowler to stop hearing about that? Probably wouldn't even matter. Might have to be a perennial 1st teamer to stop people from mentioning it.

at this point escobar would have to break all TE records for me to shut up about it. :D

Callahan didn't like Warford for his scheme because of limited mobility. He wasn't on the board. The Cowboys would likely have taken Terrance Williams there if not Escobar with RB being the third option.

Turns out his play shows he is not limited whatsoever.
I liked our draft anyway and every team misses occassionally. I just thought at the time (and now) that passing on both Lacy and Warford (and several others) there was a head-scratcher given the team's needs and their talent.

At this point, I really am pulling for our new TE to be great.

Does the truth hurt?

And we know how their evaluations have been working out, so, less said on that the better.

i definitely think that T Fred's play has justified his pick and is a smack in the face to all the critics who bashed that move.
l

that's true, and even moreso when you add in what the extra WR we got in the deal has accomplished already too

Not to rain on everyone here but the end of the detroit game was really bad for Fred. I was very impressed with him early in the season but he has been worse lately. I still think he has had a good season overall and will be a good player. Teams have started to figure some stuff out with him IMO.

Figure stuff out? Or figure out that without Waters next to him, he's not going to be as good?

It's been odd so far.

New York's Justin Pugh and DJ Fluker have been better than all of the big 3 tackles this year (Joeckel, Fisher, Johnson).

Warford and Long have been better than Warmack (Cooper broke his leg in pre-season, but was apparently showing flashes of dominance against Calais Campbell in practice).

And Travis Frederick has been better than any OL in the first round despite being a 'reach'. Really, Warford is the only Rookie that has been better than him, but he was taken in the 2nd also.

I think Frederick has done a good job this season in solidifying the center position. As far as other draft prospects go, we did miss on some players in the 2nd round when we picked Escobar.

On a positive note, we came away with Frederick, Williams, and Wilcox in the draft. That's three players who have had a big impact in their rookie season. I'm sure some teams would want to trade for our fortune.

I think he's had some struggles all year to be honest. Don't get me wrong, he's been good a lot more than he's been bad, but a rookie G/C playing even remotely decent is going to get an incredible amount of hype no matter what because of what we've witnessed at that position in recent history.

But I really don't see how anyone could even pretend to be able to answer this question. Are there really people here who watch tape on other teams and focusing on the o line? I'm going to say unlikely and our guy would be the best no matter what. Not like any rookie o lineman is getting national media attention.

I'm asking not to sound brash, because I really don't know and haven't been following...has there been a better rookie interior lineman than Frederick this season?? Who was the C for 'Bama everyone wanted?? How's he looked?? I can't even remember his name, so what does that tell you?? Cooper, Warmack, other G from Kentucky?? Hasn't T Fred looked the best?? On a separate note...does he have a shot as a rookie pro bowler this season?? Or did they already do away with the PB??

He won't be in the pro bowl (if it is still happening) since he will be prepping for a start a week later

It doesn't hurt but it does get annoying to hear it. Especially after you had a solid draft.

Nope we should make the perfect pick every time our selection pops up, predict the hindsight. It should be really simple, especially considering 31 other teams are not trying to draft well.

I haven't seen him launch one up towards the big screen either. After Gurode and Costa I was startin to think they were teaching it.

this is a joke right?

For what it is worth, PFF has Warford as the 10th best guard in the league this year out 72 ranked players.

His stats:
  • 0 sacks allowed
  • 3 QB hits allowed
  • 7 QB hurries allowed
For comparison, PFF has Frederick as the 10th rated center (out of 33 ranked) with the following stats:
  • 2 sacks allowed
  • 1 QB hits allowed
  • 8 QB hurries allowed
If you buy into these stats, there is a strong argument Warford is playing better.

I'd argue both are playing really well -- and you really can't make a call at this point at which is better -- and you don't really need to. Both are really good rookies and let's leave it at that.

I think it was a very good draft overall.

But I don't think that erases the fact that we definitely could have used more OL help and Warford would have certainly fit the bill.

Add to that Escobar's lack of contributions and it makes for a frustrating combination.

Oh I agree. But nobody hits on every draft pick. And every draft doesn't come in and immediately contribute. We came close though. From our 1st pick to our last pick.

What is Long? I know he was the highest rated lineman in the league early in the season.
