"He's better than 22," said Joyner. "I've always said, if you took back Barry Sanders and you put him behind that line that Emmitt played, he'd double the amount of yards that Emmitt had. It's not a slight to Emmitt. Emmitt was a good running back, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was a great running back because he had the best offensive line. I mean, some of those holes were just -- you could drive a mack truck through it. If I was one-on-one in the hole against Barry Sanders, I'd probably almost crap my pants. I'm just being honest. When you're talking about running backs, he's the guy that I least liked playing against. But if I was ever in the hole against Emmitt one-on-one, no problem. No worries. I'm not worried about that at all. And when I see Zeke Elliott, the way he runs -- oh my gosh. He runs with an attitude. He is what I call a generational running back. You only see a guy like that once every few generations."

Sorry no he is not. He is a rookie and is saying after 7 games is better than a HOFer that had a very long career. Zeke is still in the prove it phase which will take several years to establish he is in the same category as Emmitt.

You beat me to it.......anyway, I think it's way too early to be making this comparison. Zeke is having a better rookie season than Emmitt, but that's about as far as I'll go right now.
I dont think was as explosive a receiver, not close. Emmitt was more of a safety valve type receiver. You get the ball to Zeke as a receiver he can do some damage.

Well if you take Randy Moss and transport him to the 1980's and let him play with Joe Montana and Steve Young than he is better than Jerry Rice.

Why does the Dallas line apply to Emmitt Smith but any other player in history isn't judged by the same standard?

Let Zeke carry this team to a few Superbowls, win a league MVP, and break a few records before we say he is better than his greatness.

Ask me in 10 years. What emmitt did was so great because he was back there every week. He was consistent and durable. He had a great online but that's like saying Jerry rice had great qb's or Montana had great receivers
A great back makes a online better and a great receiver makes a qb better

People seriously underestimate Emmit. The underestimate how he shrunk his body when absorbing contact. They underestimate his patch catching ability. They underestimate his pass protection ability. They underestimate his vision and how he set up blocks. They underestimate his determination, toughness and focus (on a franchise and in a town where focus was very hard to maintain)

You don't play at a high level as long as he did because of everything and everybody around you was perfect. I really get frustrated when people reduce Emmit to simply a good player with a great OL!

Yeah that is a slight towards Emmitt, whether he believes it or not.

IIRC, emmitt had more yards against the eagles than any team.

just saying.

also, the offensive line argument against emmitt and barry on any other team argument are both bunk.

riggins played behind a hell of a line (and he ran like a hammer), but he was not the back that emmitt was.

roger craig played in a fantastic niners offense, but he was not the back that emmitt was.

sanders played behind a very good line, too, and in an offense that spread the defense (only offense in history with two receivers to amass 1,000 yards im the same season), but no one discounts him for that.

anyway... zeke has a looooong way to go to equal emmitt, but he does have power and speed and a natural pass catching ability that emmitt didn't have. it makes the prospect of what he could accomplish so exciting.

Emmitt had huge heart when it came to balling and grinding too. Not taking anything away from Zeke but he has not shown nor had the opportunity to do so to prove he is on the same level.

Remember Emmitt carrying the team with one shoulder against the Giants in NY to lock up home field!? Emmitt was the man.

I don't think it is crazy to project

EE has all the tools and the perfect situation to exploit them

Emmitt proved to have a heart and grit that couldn't be scouted at a combine...maybe Zeke does too to go with the amazing tools we can measure

I hate when people disregard comparisons to the greats.....Emmitt was just a late first rounder that was too small and too slow to do what he did in college

Elliott could be a great one....there is no logical reason to say he couldn't be

Yeah the leagues all time leading rusher was just good. Ok Seth. If I had to pick just one guy to be the back to win one playoff game. I take 22. Sanders was great, so was emmitt.

I love Zeke and he is doing great and my hope is one day he will break many Cowboy records and league records win SB along the way. As for Emmitt he has already proved himself and is sitting in the HOF. opinions are just opinion what Emmitt accomplished is plain old reality.
