Seth Joyner: Zeke better than Emmitt Smith

Emmitt made plenty of defenders look silly "in the hole"... funny thing is no other backs with our O-line did what Emmitt did. It's so much more than O-line. Emmitt had such great quickness, vision and overall "feel" for how to run.

Wow,strong endorsement coming from Seth Joyner. As a fan of the Cowboys I'm hyped. However,it was Emmitt's durability and ability to play through injury which set him apart from every other than to play the game.

So why couldn't ANY of Emmitt's backup rb's run threw those so called BIG holes? All the rb's behind Emmitt for the majority were terrible.

"He's better than 22," said Joyner. "I've always said, if you took back Barry Sanders and you put him behind that line that Emmitt played, he'd double the amount of yards that Emmitt had. It's not a slight to Emmitt. Emmitt was a good running back, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he was a great running back because he had the best offensive line. I mean, some of those holes were just -- you could drive a mack truck through it. If I was one-on-one in the hole against Barry Sanders, I'd probably almost crap my pants. I'm just being honest. When you're talking about running backs, he's the guy that I least liked playing against. But if I was ever in the hole against Emmitt one-on-one, no problem. No worries. I'm not worried about that at all. And when I see Zeke Elliott, the way he runs -- oh my gosh. He runs with an attitude. He is what I call a generational running back. You only see a guy like that once every few generations."

If my aunt had a pair of nuts then she would be my uncle....

Also, Barry played with pro bowlers on his offensive line as well as pro bowl WR and a very good D. Unfortunately, he played for some very undeserving and stupid coaches.

Better? Can't say that now.

Different? Yes.

Same kind of dominant line, but a lot more explosive.

I don't care who you are, but if you think Emmitt Smith was ever as athletic and fast as Elliott has shown so far, you might need to get glasses.

That does not mean Elliott is "better". But he has some speed factors that Emmitt Smith never ever had.

I take Emmitt over Barry every single day and twice on Sundays

Zeke can be great but let's pump the breaks

Instincts.

Zekes got them too.

Some elite RB's don't even have good instincts.. They are just freak athletes.

Zeke, like Emmitt, was born for that position.

Well if you take Randy Moss and transport him to the 1980's and let him play with Joe Montana and Steve Young than he is better than Jerry Rice.

Why does the Dallas line apply to Emmitt Smith but any other player in history isn't judged by the same standard?

Let Zeke carry this team to a few Superbowls, win a league MVP, and break a few records before we say he is better than his greatness.

I think it has more to do with these jack-sses finding a way to disrespect other Cowboys. Half of these jerks on TV and radio singing the praises of Dak are just doing it so they can diss Romo. Same goes here for Joyner dissing Emmitt.

RB is not just about athleticism, it is vision, balance/low center of gravity, heart and desire to be able to take the pounding daily year after year, the ability to get the dirty yards.

That is why I think Emmitt was better than Barry

Emmitt's greatness was his vision and his ability take angles getting thru the hole. Speed we all know wasn't his big thing ala Barry or Zeke.

Zeke's doing great, but it's WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too early to pronounce him better than Emmitt Smith. We can decide that question several years into his career.

Of course. He is showing traits, but you are correct.

He is so far.......Emmitt didn't even break 1000 yds his rookie year

Was that because Emmitt wasn't great or better? No.

There were lots of factors as to why Emmitt didn't break 1000 yards his rookie season. He joined a team that was essentially starting all over. He held out all of training camp and pre-season. He had an idiot OC in Shula who wouldn't feed him the ball. The situations aren't the same. Elliott will have a statistically better rookie season than Smith by the time the season ends. That doesn't make him better than Smith. Not yet at least.

Alfred Morris put up 1600 yards his rookie season. A career is not made up of a single season. I hope Elliot goes on to be better than Smith, but that will take years to determine.

Haha first off Barry isn't coming through the line he ran and danced around. But if you are 1 on 1 with Emmitt and you don't crap your pants then the same thing will happen that most did......grasping for air

apply all those excuses you made for Emmitt and use them for Morris....his career would be very Emmitt like if the Commanders used him they way they did his rookie year

the numbers are the numbers you don't have to massage them to make Emmitt look better

I really hate the new argument to discredit players is by saying they played with great players around them. I don't recall Sherman Williams dominating offenses behind this line.

Not a new thing. It's a media hack anti-Cowboys thing. Been happening since the 70s.
