Shango: On Garrett

Everyone is still all over Jimmy's genitalia as his ways as a coach, and even he admitted he handled star players differently.

Garrett is doing the same thing.

Not saying I agree with forcing the ball to Dez, but he is our most talented receiver. Not the best yet, but the most talented.

Absolute agree with some of the things he's saying. His opinion on the handling of Dez is spot on.

He's not putting enough emphasis on the failure of the GM or "football group" that supposedly GMs this team though. Garrett can't run the ball because we don't have the personnel to run the ball. It's not the offensive coordinator's (or even the head coach's really) responsibility to acquire talent.

Clearly he doesnt like JG so he is looking for any little excuse he can find to justify it or enforce his opinion that he shouldnt be the next HC.

Bingo! Shango has his agenda, he will find a way in every situation to try to contort an anti Garrett spiel.

The Dez thing was worked over to make a pretty bad slant, Dez is going to be a live wire and similar to T.O. in that respect, but I will wait to see if he is a mobile circus act with several off the field stunts and mind games like T.O. is.

The Felix thing was laughable, yeah we didn't want to look bad so we gave Felix a whopping 15 carries in the Titans game, ok we forced featured that, uuuugh.

All he's saying is give Garrett to the end of the season then evaluate him. Just because he's not on the sign Garrett after 3 games bandwagon doesn't mean he doesn't like him. People may think that I don't like Garrett but I reality I like any coach that can eventually get us to where we want to go. If that's Garrett then he's my coach, if not then we'll find someone else. I have an agenda and it's for the Cowboys to be Super Bowl Champions.

This video should be required viewing for all on here. His views match mine on this in most ways (except I'd rather go 7-9 than 2-14 given the choice lol).

Garretts flaws became a little more obvious last game and unfortunately will probably only become even more so as the season goes on. For all his accomplishments on getting the Boys playing with effort, he still has me worried about making players accountable (not accountable by effort but by ability or attitude).

Why is Barber still playing as much?
Why was Dez allowed to go all T.O. with no consequences?

Shango did good on this video.

Barber is playing a lot because he happens to be a physical blocker as well. Choice is not a good blocker from what I have read. Ancillary blocking is a necessity considering the state of this Oline. Shango does not work for the organization, nor do the Cowboys provide him NFL grade film for review. Would he even have the experience to evaluate it.

We had this game won and lost it on a football strip and a porous secondary.
I know that Garrett is going to make playcalling mistakes and coupled with execution issues that can affect the game.

As long as he makes predominantly good calls then what else can you expect because no perfect play-caller or coordinator exists in this league. It's kind of like 'when I am right no one remembers, when I am wrong no one forgets'.

He is saying give him the rest of the year, but he's also saying don't eat the cheese! Like most fans on this board, with there Garrett signatures.

Jerry has to get this one right. I'm not for the learning on the job deal myself. I want experience. People compare him to the next Sean Payton, but Payton had been in the league coaching for years. Garrett's had 4.5 years.

All of his time playing is NFL experience. Tom Landry and Don Shula had less than Garrett. Two of the greats. Don't let bitterness over his hair color and education cloud sanity.

Not necessarily speaking to you. I want to make that clear.

How long is long enough?

Garrett's pretty much been a player-coach for his entire NFL career.

We still have 5 games left to judge Garrett on.

We should wait until we have all of the info before we hire or fire him.

Right now he is doing a fantastic job but there were some head scratchers on Thanksgiving for sure.

...Shango...you da man!...the observations on Bryant's "Diva" episode spoke volumes to how much backbone there is among the leaders on this team...the observations on the running game are'nt anything detractors have'nt opined about Garrett for a few years now...he just loves to chuck the ball around the yard...

...i'm going to give the young man [Dez] the benefit of the doubt but that tirade on the sideline brought back memories of Owens...Dez does'nt want to go that way...the Cowboys as an organization don't need anymore of that crap...the entitlement, the coddling, the apathy, the selfishness...no more...you walk a fine line but in the end no man is greater than the team...or at least that is how it should be...

...if this was Garrett's watershed moment he missed it...let's hope he does'nt miss the next one...

Love me some Shango... die hard fan... hilarious weekly documentation... Thanks for posting the link.

Wrong.

You, me, Shango do not know the entire situation as to what went on there. We don't know if those plays were designed for Dez to be the primary receiver. We don't know if Kitna was trying to go somewhere else with the pass first. We don't know what happened on the sideline.

Shango is off base with his wild assumption of Garrett. You have to give him a whole lot more than just three games. Shango did mention that he will give him the rest of the season.

What I am seeing is:
1. The discipline is getting much better.
2. The effort is getting much better. These guys are not lying down.

It's a start.

I agree. Kitna still threw the ball to Dez. Does he really think that on the final drive of the game, Garrett is going to tell Kitna to get Dez the ball no matter what? "Hey Jon, even if he is triple covered, throw it to Dez, we need to coddle him." Umm, don't think so. And the 4th and 1, just because the Saints don't have a great RB doesn't mean they won't lineup four wide and throw a quick pass to Lance Moore or Graham. There is no rule saying you have to pound it up the middle on 4th and 1.

Was Dez doing this the whole season? If so, it could be a distraction. It looked like Sherman was able to calm him down. I believe the media reported that it wasn't because he was not catching balls rather a call that was made against him.

Yes, I agree Garrett needs to finish out the season before crowning him HC. But if a REAL evaluation is to be considered, he needs to be HC for an offseason, training camp and a whole season. I think that is the only true way to evaluate him. There are problems on this team that cannot be repaired with just a mid season coaching change.

Just like if we do hire a new coach, he gets a fresh start. JG if he performs much like he is doing during the first 3 games and finishes off strong, should get strong consideration for the job.

I know we lost the game. But considering coming back from 17 points down, taking the lead and coming one play away from beating the defending Super Bowl champs it was a good performance from the team. I think that reflects from his presence and leadership.

No coach will ever be perfect and not make mistakes during games. Even the Mighty Belicheck (sp) was roasted for going for it on 4th-1 last year against the Colts. What if that onsides kick at the beginning of the 3rd quarter in the SB goes Indy's way, they score and never give up the lead, Payton would have been the goat of the game for trying such a stunt. Jimmy in the NFC championship game against the Niners before their first Super Bowl, went for it on 4-1 deep in Niner territory instead of kicking a FG. We didn't did get the first down and the Niners went right down the field and scored. We all remember Aikman to Harper the next play.

Thanks everyone! Well most of you...lol

And for those that say I have an agenda...you are correct. I want us to be Super Bowl Champs...it's that simple.

As for the redheaded wonder...I like him a hair more than I liked Wade. :)
I don't trust coaches that do not come from established coaching trees...I can tell a lot about you just from your tree. It's just a personal preference.

I want a Super Bowl caliber coach...is it him? If not, it may send this organization south for years. Look what 3 years of Wade did to us...that was a bad hire...2 in a row would be devistating.

We are at a crossroads.....
