Shango: On Garrett

I disagree with sitting Dez. If he is drawing double coverage, why would you sit him. But I really don't understand going to him 3 times in the end. Garrett seemed like he was playing for overtime instead of the win. Can't believe we ended the game with 2 timeouts in our pocket. Was expecting a draw play on 2nd or 3rd down to try to catch the Saints off guard. Will have to see how Garrett coaches from here on out, lost a little confidence in him after some of his calls.

Very astute observations from Shango.

It's absurd that a mere three games would be enough to convince anyone that Garrett--or any other candidate, for that matter--is the right coach. If you're sold on Garrett at this point, it should be for reasons derived from events or observations before these games. Having said this, I concede that these games have me leaning towards Garrett.

Shango also made an excellent point about the potential systemic problems within the Cowboys organization. Many of us have offered the same observation.

not really.....he is bringing up the same nonsense all the media and some fans have ....questioning some play calls ...how original......at the end of the game Garrett has the team in position to win and if not for the fumble or the defense letting them march 90 yrds in a minute....

he talks about how our running game has sucked the last 2 seasons.....thats right about the time out O line started taking a nose dive...

he talks about the 4-1 Barber call.....i didnt agree but that doesnt make it a bad call it just didnt work..

the kicks i thought were both the right calls...id rather take chance with Buehler's leg at 59 yards than 4th and 10 for the game

excepting the penalty ......his reasoning on why they should have declined it was that Parcells tree guys wouldnt have went for it on 4th and 1 .....BS Belichick does it alot.....and ....Payton is an agressive play caller , with the lead at that point of the game IMO he goes for it every single time 3rd and 11 is much better percentage wise....


now with Dez i agree IF he was complaining about not getting the ball....but do we really know what that was all about?.....alot believe he was upset about the penalty on him.....

You, me, Shango do not know the entire situation as to what went on there. We don't know if those plays were designed for Dez to be the primary receiver. We don't know if Kitna was trying to go somewhere else with the pass first. We don't know what happened on the sideline.

Shango is off base with his wild assumption of Garrett. You have to give him a whole lot more than just three games. Shango did mention that he will give him the rest of the season.

What I am seeing is:
1. The discipline is getting much better.
2. The effort is getting much better. These guys are not lying down.

It's a start.

This video should be required viewing for all on here. His views match mine on this in most ways (except I'd rather go 7-9 than 2-14 given the choice lol).

Garretts flaws became a little more obvious last game and unfortunately will probably only become even more so as the season goes on. For all his accomplishments on getting the Boys playing with effort, he still has me worried about making players accountable (not accountable by effort but by ability or attitude).

Why is Barber still playing as much?
Why was Dez allowed to go all T.O. with no consequences?

The problem is that discipline and effort can often come to a team for a little while whenever a drastic change like firing a HC comes into play no matter WHO comes after him. We might be seeing the same effort even if Campo became HC again.

Granted, Red has brought discipline for the time being. But how long will that hold up? Red so far hasn't brought the hammer down on anybody at least in a visible way outside the lockerroom.

Barber is still getting his carries (unfortunately). Dez got out of control will no visible discipline to keep him in check. If we lose Dez to diva syndrome and "coddle" him like Shango thinks we are doing, then we will be living with another T.O. situation again.

Speaking of which, you don't think it is suspicious that we didn't target Dez very much all game until he went loco, then all of a sudden targeted him exclusively to our detriment? Doubt that was coincidence.

Looks like over-reaction nation is in full gear again on this Dez Bryant thing.

Funny how nobody mentions that on virtually every big play made by other guys, I saw Dez Bryant out there celebrating and congratulating guys almost immediately.

But because people saw one scene on the sideline where it looked like Bryant might have been upset about something, he's now a "diva" being "coddled" or being "TO-like"

I've felt good about Garrett for some time now. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on a lot of stuff.

Some of the 2nd guessing is just that.

I would've kicked the 53yd FG, but understood why he didn't. What most who disagree with that call will fail to mention is that it actually worked out in our favor.

I would have kicked the FG on the 4th and 1. That's been a pet peev of mine for some time.
Don't go for 4th down conversions passng up makeable FGs unless game conditions call for it. Even if you convert you still have to punch it into the endzone.

I would've refused the 10 yard penalty and forced the Saints to punt or go for a 4th and 1 conversion at that point in the game for a few reasons:
Their offense is too potent to give another shot at 3rd and 11.
At the 40 yardline with just about a minute left, I'm sure the Saints would've punted to pin us deep. Last thing they'd want to do is miss there and give us great field position when we'd need it most considering we'd have so little time left.

Still think coached a hell of a game.

Sean Payton is one of the most (if not THE most) aggressive coaches in football. He onside kicked in a super bowl to start a half. You honestly think he was PUNTING on 4th and less than a yard, on our 46 1/2 yd line when he knew they had us on the ropes and our defense had done nothing to stop a run play for no gain or a loss all day? Oh, and then there's the fact that he has arguably the best QB in the league if he decided to call a playaction pass.

There's no way they were punting there.

Why would you have your kicker kick the 53 yard field goal,

and then later in the game , not have him at attempt from the same

distance ?

Talk about not making sense !

I think he is knit picking on a lot of his points. No way would I have tried the 51 yard FG. It is different to try a long kick with the half coming to an end, I wouldnt want to give the ball to Brees at the 41 yard line with a 3 point lead.

It is easy to say we have to run, run, run the ball but you can want to run all you want it wont matter if you dont have the players up front to execute it.

As for Dez, no one has any clue what he was even saying. Saying JG gave in to Dez is also inaccurate, he makes it seem like he immediately went to Dez right after the rant. That is not what happened and he also has no clue that JG even called plays for Dez there. The QB has just as much influence on who gets the ball as the play caller.

Clearly he doesnt like JG so he is looking for any little excuse he can find to justify it or enforce his opinion that he shouldnt be the next HC.
