Seattles Defense might be the best unit in the entire league.

They are seriously good in the front 7.

and they just got better.

They also seem to do a decent job of handling the headcases.

The great teams continue to find ways to get better. The Cowboys just seem to believe in philosophies and then holding onto that philosophy until it's proven ineffective.

I disagree. That 2nd round pick is big.

Yeah, to me, looks more like Seahawks are doing their best to keep that "legion of boom" intact to squeak out one more Super Bowl with them before all of the players retire/depart.

Also, and if by some miracle the Jets end up with a record that has them drop out of the top 5 pick, they have a 2nd round pick they can throw at a team higher than them to move up and grab a QB they want in this strong draft class.

I would say this was a pretty good trade for both teams on the surface - Jets need to do something good with that 2nd round pick though.

Richardson is an unrestricted free agent after the season, unless the Seahawks already signed him to a long term contract. I want no part of giving up a starting caliber WR and a 2nd round pick for a guy who can leave after the year. And especially not for some guy who doesn't even show up for his own birthday party.

But, I'm sure he and Frank Clark will get along just fine.

Where is the sense of urgency with the Cowboys? We should be trying everything possible to improve this defense...to win now before Dak takes up 1/5th of our salary cap. That's the real "window".

We need all of our draft picks - Our first and second picks will most likely be going on defense yet again unless we see a stud RT/Guard fall into our lap.

When Rodgers is going down the field at will on our defense in January, please no crying from you.

Richardson fits better for the Seahawks defense than he fits Dallas. They have some edge rushers that can take pressure off of him. Dallas does not. He can improve both teams, but he provides more value for the Seahawks because of what they already have in place.

We don't know if the Jets would have been interested in Brice Butler or Terrance Williams. Kearse is on a 2 year deal with an out after 1. They can test him for a season without automatically losing him after the year and not stuck with him if he doesn't contribute. Butler is on a 1 year deal. Williams is on a 4 year deal.

I do hope Dallas looks into acquiring a upper echelon pass rusher, preferably a DE, but even adding a force at DT would go a long way towards building a championship worthy defense. We have plenty of decent to good DL but the one thing we lack is that Alpha dog that can take over a game. To the Cowboys credit they have much better depth now than they had most of D-Ware's career. They just need that stud that can make the entire group better. Add a stud that can open things up for guys like Collins (has stud potential), Lawrence, Crawford and Taco and watch this defense FLY.

Theoretically, we could have traded next year's 1, too, to make the defense even better this season.

It's one thing to think SEA got a steal here (I don't, I think they overpaid), but it's another to fault a club for it's commitment to rebuilding the defense for *not* trading away premium picks at a point where they're at their lowest value for expensive vets already in the NFL substance program who are going to be looking for a payday very soon.

And nobody has been beating the 'improve the defense' drum around here more than I have. I hate not having enough talent on defense. But the smart way to fix the defense is to draft and develop, take shots on talented VFAs where you can, and place bets on the occasional long-shot problem child. Not by giving up premium picks for expensive vets looking to land a next big contract.

I wouldn't have given up a 2nd rounder for a disgruntled player. This feels like decreasing your window of opportunity for a shot at something you aren't the frontrunner for to me.

Right. Plus, this is the NFL. Guys aren't as plug-and-play. Missing training camp is a big deal.

That 2nd round pick will mean nothing when they're in another super bowl. They're reloading on defense while we're sitting pat with Jeff Heath and Benson Mayowa.

I heard it right here on CZ that Heath is a difference maker

Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Sheldon Richardson plays a position the Cowboys don't need. They need defensive end pass rushers...who aren't suspended.
If you have a DT combo of Richardson/Collins you can pretty much trot out any pair of jags at DE. That's what Carolina did in 2015 while Hardy was unable to play.

They can handle problem children mostly because nobody cares what seattle players do. Nationally no one has ever gave a damn that they signed Frank Clark. In Dallas he would be a national villain.

How about we let the entire process play out from now to Sunday. If they don't do anything to improve and there were good players and trades to be had, then I'll be right there *****ing. Right now, I'm in sit back and watch mode. They have cap space to make any deal or sign any player they want and they have a few weak spots that could use another good/solid veteran. I think they will make a few moves by Sunday. My best guess is MLB and DE bu we'll see.

These disgruntled types are usually a mixed bag when it comes to free agency. If he'll end up being as effective as Seattle thinks he'll be is 50/50 imo. Then even if he is, whether that warrants a premium pick or not is based entirely on short term success at the expense of a larger window.

I almost always will take the larger window.

We will see how he fits in Seattle. It is always difficult to see how these things play out when a guys joins a team at the end of camp and is on a short term deal.

At his best, he can be a really nice cog with that Seattle defense. I have heard the reason their defense have not been the legion of Doom over the past year or two is they have lost that depth at pass rush and haven't been able to find that pass rush of a few years ago. With a better pass rush, that secondary suddenly looks like all world again.

their head coach has a lot to do with the ablility of seattle to handle problem players and they win and compete for the playoffs every year that also makes a difference

Agreed. We kind of did it to ourselves, but you are not wrong.
