Shiyazh Pete’s path to the NFL rooted in family, sacrifice and belief

For many prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, the spotlight extended far beyond the players. It found their parents. From emotional embraces to quiet living room moments, the draft became a reminder that every name called – or not called – carries a story built on years of sacrifice, support and belief.

For Shiyazh Pete, that story was written long before draft weekend. After five years of college football, Pete finds himself in a familiar place for players chasing the next level: undrafted, but with strong interest from the Dallas Cowboys. As of Wednesday morning, he had not signed a binding contract with any NFL team. If he signs with the Cowboys, he will have to travel to Dallas to ink the deal.

For Pete and his parents, Natani and Geraldine, the moment is not defined by draft position but by the journey that led there. For Pete, the goal has always been clear. The NFL. And now, he continues to work toward it.

I listen to his biography before being drafted by the Cowboys. First Navajo young man to ever play (possibly) in the NFL. Boy, am I pulling for him. Super longshot. What a great story and Jerry Jones loves him some great stories.
We might be able to get an international exemption spot for him. Navajo Nation is sovereign -- technically part of the U.S. but independent. I can't see that the league wouldn't want to grant the roster exemption.

Pete has primarily played at guard. And while the Cowboys list him at 6'9 he's probably an inch or so shorter.

Regardless I hope he makes the practice squad and gets interviews once in a while. It's so fun to listen to him speak.

Wonder if that is because he is so raw. The dude is a giant. He looks like a tackle lol.

He played left tackle at Kentucky but gave up a lot of sacks and pressures. He's a massive guy with a ton of power but he doesn't have good feet. He will have to play guard at this level to succeed.

And I wouldn't bet against him if the Cowboys have a PS spot and are patient.

Cowboys' Shiyazh Pete looks like a hidden gem vs the Seahawks: PreSeason Game 1 @ Seattle 2026

I mentioned Shiyazh Pete's performance as soon as PreSeason Game 1 vs the Seahawks was ending. I thought he looked absolutely awesome and dominating. Best out of all the Olinemen who played all game whether 1st or 2nd Half. Shiyazh Pete brought his A game and definitely made a case to be kept on the 53 man roster. If he plays just as good this upcoming 2nd PreSeason Game vs the Cardinals, Cowboys need to find a spot for him on the 53, even if it means cutting one of the underperforming/struggling veterans. He will not make it to our Practice Squad because someone will pick him up before we are able to move him. Shiyazh Pete is proving he is worth keeping. He is strong, quick off the snap, tremendous size and strength, can easily stall big defenders and constantly drive them 7+ yards downfield. And for those who said Pete has slow feet, what film(s) have you been watching? Pete has shown the opposite: quick feet and movement is a big plus he has going for himself. Can't wait to see 6'9", big ol' #75 this upcoming PreSeason 2 game at the Cardinals.

:starspin: GO, SHIYAZH PETE, GO!!! :starspin:

Don't think there's ever been a 6-9 OG.
