The man who may have the biggest name in Green Bay sports history has asked to be traded.

Several Packers and league sources have told FOXSports.com that Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook phoned Green Bay's general manager Ted Thompson within two to three days of the draft and asked for a trade. The sources said that Cook railed off how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out.

The shocking request appeared directly related to the team's inability to trade for WR Randy Moss.

The news was then relayed to head coach Mike McCarthy, who immediately phoned the Super Bowl winning quarterback to squash his anger. However, the quarterback ignored all his calls for a week, perhaps showing the team how upset he was this time.

Finally, in the middle of this past week the two finally connected. Sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade but McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen. McCarthy told others inside the organization it appeared the team's head coach had cooled Favre's anger and by the end of the conversation admitted he didn't want to go elsewhere. However, at the same time he has told friends on other teams as well how frustrated he is with the organization's inability to land the former Pro Bowl wideout and that he, in fact, wanted out.

On Saturday, Favre railed against the team in an interview with his local Biloxi Sun Herald.

"I just want to win; maybe I see things the wrong way," Favre said in the exclusive interview. "I don't want to ruffle any feathers and I want people to respect me. Sometimes I think it's hard for them to let Brett go. They might think that we pay him a lot of money, but he still gives us the best chance to win. I've never been told that, but there are times when I wonder if I'm the odd man out here and they just don't know how to tell me.

"Our offense struggled last season. If it were not for our defense, we would not have won eight games. Right now, it's hard to be optimistic. I'm not getting any younger and I think everyone knows that. I don't have five years to rebuild. No one in Green Bay is saying rebuild but it's hard to look at where we are going and say, 'How can they not be rebuilding?'

"I don't know if I've lost faith, and I think everyone in the organization wants to win. I just don't know if it includes me. If it's going to be five years from now, I'm not going to be here. This is 17 years for me and I want to win."

At this point the Packers are primed to head into serious damage control to prevent any further uproar regarding their most prized name. However, too much damage may already have been done by his bizarre trade request.

Despite Favre's trade request and rant to the Biloxi Sun, the team has no intention of parting ways with him. In fact, some within the organization claim that McCarthy honestly believes they can win with the long-time vet at the helm and has repeatedly told him as such.

Thus, they are hoping that Favre simply needed to vent for a while before jumping back on board.

Perhaps Favre should show his true indignation and quietly retire. Packers should begin to notice that he's not behind center by the sixth game or so.

Wow....I can't believe he would have asked for a trade. Ted Thompson seriously didn't give Favre a running game or another wideout by pursuing Moss harder, so I understand Favre's anger. He should retire because to see him in another uniform would really be awkward.

Seriously, whomever inherits the QB spot the next few years is going to have it really nice; The GB defense is pretty good, and all of us are going to see A.J. Hawk and Nick Barnett( who is awesome) in the probowl for the ext few years. Favre really won't have to throw into double and triple coverage anymore because he won't HAVE to win games anymore...

*Dan Snyder is calling Green Bay as we speak*

Flashback to last year's "This is the most talented team I've ever played on" statements...

It's like when your girlfreind cooks you dinner, but you hate it. You don't want to hurt her feelings, so you tell her this is the best meatloaf (or insert other food here) you've had. You then proceed to hack it up later on.

Favre was trying to boost the teams' ego.

I seriously doubt Vince Lombardi asked to be traded 37 years after he died. And I don't know how long Curly Lambeau has been dead. Sheesh, what a moron.

Last years reference?

He says that every single year. Except this year.

He should retire right after the kickoff of their opening regular season game. That would be so hilarious!!

The packers should realize that he wants to win a superbowl and retire...so they should leverage this fact in a trade to help their franchise over the next few years....some team would probably give up a lot for his services.

Greenbay needs to do what is right for the team, not just try to keep Favre happy or content.

They should trade him back to Atlanta since they may be needing a starting QB soon if Vick is implicated in the latest scandal.

Actually I disagree most of the contenders have QB's in place to make a run. The teams that would be interested are Cleveland, Miami, Detroit, basicly the bottom 25% of the league and they are no better off than GB

Nice. This would also be good publicity for a team that needs some. And Favre would make an immediate impact on that team, one that has a lot of talent but not the best leadership...something he excells in....

Hey Boys fans. My thoughts.

Farve was one of the best that played. Green Bay is one of the best of the NFL teams. Tradition. Like the Boys. Me, a Pats Fan, well we are getting to that tradition point. But Green Bay, small town, great tradition. Makes me sad.

How could this happen??????

I don't like it one bit.

If Farve was 30, OK. But, you know your career is almost over, why NOW??? I'm kinda thinking it was a bad choice. Sometimes in life you just have to let it go. You are Green Bay guy. Let it go.

I don't like this one bit. Accept that you had a great career in a town that cared about you. And respected you.

This is really not good.

All I have to say.

I've been sayin gthis for years, the Packers are not considering their future strongly enough, they act as if Favre is there for life- meaning, forever. I don't know one person here in Green Bay that actually thinks Rodgers is the guy, not remotely. So I guess one can also see their desparation in trying to keep him, too. Life after Favre could very well be a long and sore one, ala the time after Bart Starr. Nobody wants to think on a 30 year schedule up here again, but it's really what they fear the most.
