Shorter passes is that the answer in 2023?

Yes we will be in a different offense, the word around town is it'll be shorter quick passes. Away from the long developing routes I can smile but hold on!!! Are we really going to keep it short, and continue to not test the defense deep to keep them honest? I don't the one per game deep shot to TY HILTON like we did several games this past season.

Short passes in this offense to me says a lot of passes to our TE's, if we re-sign Shultz he may lead the league with 200 catches for 987 yards!! What would be the point of bringing in a big name to sit and watch a TE be the focal point of our QB?

Really hope we go with quicker guys that can get open. This HAS to be the focus this off season, if so I'm excited!!! Please give your thoughts

It seems like it will be shorter passes and more running with more shots taken deep.

That was the Seahawk's offense the 3 years Schotty was there and not far from what McCarthy ran in GB. Only difference being he probably leaned more on the short passing game due to lack of RBs.

Just go back and watch the 2016 divisional game when Dak and Zeke was a rook, or the 2014 Dez no catch game both against GB. You will see dudes running wide open all over the place.

But did they have a QB that could run that offense as opposed to us

Well, we saw what that QB could do when they took him out of that approach.

So I would say we are in good shape.

Not sure the distance of passes will change much. The cowboys were middle of the pack in throws over 20 yards last year, I bet that stays similar. The difference will be more in the types of routes and more concepts of hitting all levels of the defense. You may see things reversed a bit where the last couple years Daks first read was often times down field and then if it wasnt open he would go underneath to the TE. I expect it to be the opposite now where dak still has that downfield route but the first read is most often going to be the underneath guy. Force teams to take away the underneath then get those 1v1s over the top. Just a different way to get to the same goal. I think the bigger difference is going to be more crossing routes instead of a heavier vertical based route tree. I’d target Ceedee Lamb in fantasy this year because of it. We will see how it effects the offense as a whole.

Dak doesn't read the D quickly enough to count on shorter passes.

Maybe not shorter passes, but getting the ball to where the defense is at a disadvantage in coverage. Too many times Dak tried pressing the issue this year and I think the ints got in his head. Hopefully the new OC helps rein ol # 4 in this year

I think people confuse "West Coast Offense" with "short passes" when in reality, it's about quick throws more so than short passes.

Imagine being a defense knowing that the receivers could catch the ball running posts or slants early so you cannot sit 10-15 yards off the line of scrimmage like you could against Kellen Moore.

The WCO also includes passes down the field though which makes it harder on defenses because they have to protect the short and long passing game.

For me personally, I treat the WCO like play-action for receivers.

If you throw and complete enough quick passes, it ultimately makes the defensive secondary move closer to the line which makes them susceptible to long throws when set up and timed properly.

Yeah but our defense stunk for the most part those years. People get caught up in their ranking but forget that we led the league in time of possession those years and enabled the defense to only have to play like 40% of the game. We a few good players on those defenses but overall they were average at best and Rodgers had his way with them.
