If you are going to jet up to the top of the draft by jettisoning four or five good picks...you've got to believe there is a generational talent you can lock up with virtually no question marks...

And you've got to be VERY comfortable with your roster. Do we have such a situation? Doubt it.

Look how long it took Atlanta to make it to the superbowl after that trade. They had only 1 playoff win until this season.

We need to stay the course and continue to draft young talent

NO. I don't see what's so legendary about Myles Garrett
I was a big Myles Garrett guy back in late October. It seems some of the luster has faded with him. Solomon Thomas could be available at 28. I tried to go back and find some of the tweets where they questioning Thomas's effort. Corey Davis (wr) has been mocked to us on a couple of tweets. If it's between Thomas and Davis at 28 that will be an interesting decision. I'd probably lean Davis.

One great defensive player isn't going to impact a defense like a great offensive skill position player like a QB, RB or WR. Demarcus Ware proved that a great defensive player isn't going to make a great unit. The biggest trades in NFL history involved offensive skill players. If you're going to make a Julio Jones type trade it needs to involve a Julio Jones type offensive player who can take over a game, a player who touches the football. We need defensive "players" so it's best to keep most if not all our picks and draft smart like we have on offense, instead of gambling high picks on injured players, TEs to play behind Witten and players with drug issues. You probably won't find a team that's thrown away more #2 picks than the Cowboys the past decade. Bruce Carter, Escobar, Gregory were wasted premium draft picks and so far Jaylon Smith have been a wasted high pick until he gets on the field and shows he's back from his college injury and can play.

Had we drafted a solid defensive player instead of Escobar 4 years ago and Carter had been the player some hyped him to be along with Gregory and we drafted a healthy defensive player last April, we could have had a great defense to compliment our offense and be playing in the SB on Sunday. With all the holes we have defensively we can't be packaging current and future picks for one player because we need more than one player to build a defense that's capable of containing /defending the elite QBs/offenses in the playoffs. We need bookend rushers, Irving could be one of those rushers and at least one "playmaker" in the secondary.

We have too many needs, no way I'd trade so many assets for any one guy in this particular draft.

With Tabor's off the field issues, I'd avoid him like the plague.

I don't think Peppers has a real position. There's no way I'm dropping a 1st round pick on a defensive back who had 1 interception in 3 years.
Listening to Michigan fans they seem to believe Peppers wasn't allowed to be in coverage as much. As for the int numbers i think Jalen Ramsey has made that a useless talking point, Ramsey was outstanding as a rookie and he only had 3 ints in college.

Unless a 15-20 rated prospect falls into our laps at #28-- then I think we should trade back and land another 2nd or 3rd round pick. There will be pass rushing and DB value to be had in rounds 2-4.

I don't think the Cowboys are 1 pass rusher away from having a SB caliber defense. I think they're at least 2 pass rushers away, plus probably a CB or 2, depending what happens with the FAs this offseason. We need to keep as many draft picks as possible to keep stockpiling young talent, especially at DE.Trading a bunch of picks for 1 pass rusher isn't the answer. Plus, trading up for a top prospect can be very risky and hamper the rest of the draft if the player turns out to be a bust. We should all be well aware of how that turned out last time.

Would just like to point out that this is the 1st time the Falcons have made the playoffs since 2013 and the Julio trade was 2011. As great as Julio is I'm not sure you can call that trade an outright win for the Falcons organization. Sure 6 years later they are in the super bowl, but who knows what would have happened had they kept those 5 picks.

agreed, I hardly see a direct correlation to a result 6 years after he was drafted. Seems to me, they improved their depth across the board and continued to win while Julio was hampered on the sidelines for many plays/games at the end of the regular season (which killed my fantasy team in the playoffs). Depth and better coaching seems to be a bigger effect since their loss to GB

I say no they shouldn't. Trust the process and use the picks to continue building a young deep core.

Build for sustainability...that's what the good franchises do. Dallas was close this season but it is a year to year League. They are not one player away going into 2017.

Trade back every draft pick to 2018. Fill the defensive need with FAs and UDFAs this year. 2018 we will be loaded with picks and able to trade way down. I know it won't happen, just throwing it out there.

Dumb article. If anything, I'd be looking to trade down considering the draft is so strong at positions where we need bodies.

I could see us moving up a few spots, but not as much as the Falcons did in 2011. Here'a link to the ESPN article:

No, no and no.

Those trades rarely work for the team giving up massive picks.

Just think if some team had given up a massive number of picks for Clowney a few years ago. Clowney looked like a can't miss type player at a premium position. He could still reach elite status but will be a free agent by then.

There is a high probability that at least one of the pass rushers at #28 or close enough to #28 for a small trade up, will become an elite player or at least near-elite. The key is determining which one.
