Should Cowboys rethink Hardy situation?

On the field Hardy didn't make us that much better to justify paying him what he would cost, which his price tag is probably getting lower by the day. But bottom line is our defense was not good last year and Hardy was supposed to be the game changer and he wasn't. In fact of all the suspensions the only one I am really worried about is DLaw. Gregory gave us nothing last year, so missing out in his 0 sacks isn't too big of a hit, McClain seemed to only want to be on the team on game days and even then it didn't seem like he was into it. Hardy disappeared after November.

I feel like guys like Hardy and McClain are bad for the locker room. They're bad role models for younger players. And for that reason I say we part ways with McClain now and never entertain the idea of Hardy again. We experimented with Hardy last year and it didn't pan out.

These aren't the droids we're looking for, move along

Actually Hardy DID make the other defenders around him better. Hardy allowed DLaw and TCraw more one on one opportunities and they responded by having career numbers. I would sign Hardy to one year incentive laden vet min on THIS point alone.

But Hardy by himself is not going to fix this defense. Cowboys need to be more aggressive with opportunities to pry away talented players on other teams that are disgruntled for reasons other than football. Jerry used to be famous for this in the 90's, pouncing on those opportunities, big or small, like a bonafide predator but Stephen is more of a kitty cat by comparison.

Well, we already have 3 players on D suspended...why not add a possible 4th?

I know that we do the whole "RKG" thing around here, but to some degree, it really needs to play some part in determining who the team brings in. I certainly realize that this isn't the only team with guys facing suspensions, but 3 out of your 11 starters on D being out for 4 games minimum really makes me wonder if a culture change is needed in Big D.

I remember when I was younger, and Bill Parcells cut Quincy Carter (laugh, but he had led the team to the playoffs the previous year) and Derek Ross...and I thought to myself "WHAT?!?!!?" Now I understand why. I wish we had a coach with some kind of backbone, or, I wish that the owner would allow someone to come in and make these kinds of decisions for him because clearly it isn't, and hasn't been working out too well over the last 20+ years.

No.

But, it doesn't have to do with his alleged 'woman beating' incident because he didn't beat her. There's a reason why that conviction was expunged from his record. Just like the DA stated...he wasn't comfortable with what his ex-gf, Holder, stated in her testimony versus what she told police and the evidence.

It has more to do with Hardy allegedly drinking too much and missing meetings. Although one has to wonder if the Cowboys are making some of that up to get rid of the PR nightmare and simply because the FO and Garrett cannot be trusted.

The FO and Garrett seemed to be okay with McClain getting suspended and showing up out of shape. Or the failed tests by Randy Gregory and Demarcus Lawrence. But, when Hardy says he plans on coming out guns ablazing, that's where they seemed to draw the line on what to be concerned with.

The facts are that Hardy likely didn't do anything to Nicole Holder. But, the facts are that the Cowboys as an organization cannot handle the bad PR that comes with that accusation just like they can't handle habitual pot users in order to get them to stop smoking weed.

YR

I'm OK with Hardy coming back if its at a new contract wih loads of incentives..

like no outbursts on or off the field..no missing meetings and certain play levels he must make.. such as minimum sacks..minimum number of games played, minimum munutes played, etc.

If can do that he gets half of what he got last year, but gets a second season with more money.

If it doesn't work, you cut him or do not resign him.

Bottom line is we are looking at 8-8 or worst with all these suspensions and we need players if there is any hope for our season.

I do not think Romo, Dez and Elliott alone are going to get us to 10-6 or better without more help defensively.

There is nobody else available. Let Garrett show us what a coach he is. Another losing season and Redball is gone anyway.

He can't remain here if he only produces more than one year in 2014 with a winning record in his tenure. A string of 8-8 seasons is not good enough.

He's gone if he doesn't get the team back to the playoffs.

Hardy is not facing any suspensions......for what it is worth he spent his off-season pursuing his degree from Ole Miss, getting counseling and holding youth camps...I would give him another chance

Can we start a Hardy Zone? That way I can not go there and never have to read his name again.

Well, it should speak volumes that 31 other teams are not interested in Hardy at all. And the lack of interest has nothing to do with how much money he wants. I am starting to wonder if Hardy could even get an offer for veteran minimum money. Leads me to believe there was a lot more going on last year at practices and the locker room with Hardy than we know about. So-so production, horrible teammate, and a bad reputation won't get you very far.

People are quick to ask for forgiveness when they are in the wrong and stingy to give it when somebody else asks. His past is his past, he's a hell of a football player and I would love to bring him back on this team.

Good reply.

I'm generally in agreement.

When you mention Jimsterbeing able to handle Hardy..

Agreed.

Jimmy took a reject like Charles Haley who every bit a distraction and made him Pro Bowler again and win 2 SBs.

Tom Landry took Duane Thomas and got great play out of him for the team long enough to win a SB.

I too think a lot of the failure by Garrett last year and the leaked rumors of Garrett trying to handle Hardy was a distraction aimed at the media to take focus off the cratering of the season overall.

Garrett was looking for a scapegoat and Hardy was an easy target. He made up his mind Hardy was a problem and wanted the team to fear him if they didn't do it his way.

Pure ego on Garrett's part and not wanting to look at what he did poorly in the situation.

I don't believe in Garrett anymore. Started out liking him but he has not shown nothing to me.

A bit of a conspiracy theory don't you think?!

I'm ok with signing any DE that can get us 8-12 sacks a season. Hardy or Freeney.
It's freeney, you don't have any " potential" lockeroom issues but he is older. Either of these guys are better than Lawrence, Myewe( however u spell it), Gregory, or jack Crawford.

On a side note the Giants D line is gonna give us fits. Oliver Vernon had his way with Tyron in their last meeting ( see Cowboys.com article) and JPP will destroy free with his quick burst. Free has problems with speedy guys. We need to put together a PROVEN defensive line with ability, potential, but and on the field results.

I know there's a lot of posters I argued with the past year who wish the Cowboys would rethink the Hardy situation. Lol
