Should Dak get a raise in pay this year or next?

No he is on a 4 year deal and because of the price tag this will allow the Cowboys more room to acquire more talent on defense. Much the same way Seattle was able to do with Wilson in the early part of his contract as a mid rd pick.
you should read the thread , it was stated they cant give him a raise even if they wanted to.

Romo being under contract for 2 years of Dak's tenure kind of defeats the savings

SEA wasted a lot of salary cap space on Sidney Rice, Matt Flynn, Percy Harvin and ZMiller

Any savings they got on Wilson and Sherman they wasted

great post bk ! I just dont think it is good to not take care of Dak considering what he has done. but apparently they cant
give him more money in salary.
Often times like with wilson, it was like when his rookie contract was up they didnt wanna pay up.
and murray, cowboys didnt take care of him either.
But Dak is doing ok and will make money in other areas.

Seattle did waste some money on the hotshot players, and gram sp has only been sporatic, and maybe not worth what they paid.

1st off we don't know what Romo situation is next season and 2 Cowboys need to stop paying out so soon in a players career. Dallas hits a windfall with a 4th rd QB and you would give him a big contract next season? Fact is Dallas needs help on defense there is no sense in paying out a big contract before they need to and in the meantime may be able to take care of areas of need.

Even Jerry wouldn't do stuff like this even if it was legal.

I don't know where you got that impression from.......I said extend him after 2018 when first allowed if they can get a substantial savings.........5/60m is a very friendly but they would have to guarantee the entire amount

ok I dont mean like 20 mil a year or even10 or 5.
I was thinking if I was the owner, I would give this kid a raise to at least 2 mil a year, and maybe to 5 a year,
then tell him to keep that in mind when he is signing 2nd contract.

It isnt right to expect him to play for 4th round salary, which is what $500,000 a year?
I dont know how much of that he would have after taxes, but it doesnt seem like enough.

The way I look at it he has done enough to earn 2 mil this year already !

So what would you do if your the owner?

A good-faith raise this year and renegotiate next year. And tie him up long-term.

5 years at 60 mill? Yes that would be very friendly and if Dak continues to play as he is no agent in his right mind would settle for that

Heck Andrew Luck signed a 5 year, $122,970,000 contract with the Indianapolis Colts, including a $32,000,000 signing bonus, $87,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $24,594,000. In 2016, Luck will earn a base salary of $12,000,000 and a signing bonus of $18,000,000. Luck has a cap hit of $18,400,000 while his dead money value is $44,000,000.

and Russell Wilson signed a 4 year, $87,600,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, including a $31,000,000 signing bonus, $61,542,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $21,900,000. In 2016, Wilson will earn a base salary of $12,342,000. Wilson has a cap hit of $18,542,000 while his dead money value is $37,142,000.

Why would Dak want to settle for less that the going rate and by 2018 that figure likely is much higher than the numbers these guys are getting.

Right now Dallas does not even need to concern themselves with Dak contract but when the time comes if he has continued to play at a high level then Dak like any other player will want what if fair.

Half a mil a year isn't starving. He'll survive until next contract.

Half mil a year ain't spit. Wilcox makes more. If he's our starter next year, he better get a new deal. They did it with Romo in 2007.

When they're allowed to I'm sure they will. In the meantime he'll get some nice endorsements after this year.

you know it is possible dak plays great for 3 years and gets hurt, then doesnt get the big payday.

Only because it would be 2 years early and guarantee him 60m after making only 3m

He would have every right to decline and dig in and go for max dollars........this is merely an alternative that makes Dak a very rich man and still allows for a huge 3rd contract before 30

The CBA has changed, and you literally can not renegotiate until after year three.

And Romo was heading into his 5th season in 07

I'm not worried about Dak getting his "quan". When the time comes, I have no doubt that he will be rewarded for the most incredible season by a rookie QB- EVER. After he starts winning Super Bowls, his salary will go through the roof.
