Should Dak play vs the Texans

This is a real conundrum. He needs the reps, but we need a healthy QB who isn't risked for a preseason game. At this point, I think he has to play half the game with Showers playing the other half. The need for experience is just too great.

Romo's injury changed the playing schedule for everyone, it forces either Dak or Showers into the game. I expect to see Dak and the 1st line on the field vs the Texans. Barring injury, in 14 days, Showers is going to the bench and Dak is on the field. I don't care what "vet" QB is signed, the only way that he plays against the Giants is if Dallas gets nuked.

Who's on the street right now? Do they bring someone in immediately just to get through and hand off for that last preseason game? That's about where we're at right now.

We are going to need a more veteran backup behind Dak, so we will quickly sign some name and he and Showers will get a bunch of reps IMO

No. It would be pointless for him to suit up and play with a bunch of backups and fringe players just for the sake of it.

For all intents and purposes he's our starting QB now. Let him ride the bench like the rest of the starters and focus on prepping for week 1.

Yes without question, the whole game.

He needs every rep he can get.

It is a huge mistake to sit him like he some 5 year all pro.

Only if the starting offensive line plays.

So absolutely not.

Simple. Prescott needs to play. Cannot protect QB's. Just ask Romo. He needs to get ready for the season.

This.

Pointless reps are pointless. He doesn't need to run around trying to play ball with a bunch of scrubs "just because". He needs reps with the starting O which I'm sure he'll get plenty of between now and week 1.

so why not play the line and get zeke, butler, swaim and traylor work with them?

Tom Coughlin played his starters in the 4th preseason game many times and they have two super bowls.

Zeke was breathing pretty heavy and looked like he could use all the work he could get. It would only help the whole team if they all played.

There really isn't much of a choice with only 2 healthy QB's on the roster. Like someone else said, let them split the playing time, Dak with the first team, Showers with the rest.

I want Dak to get all the practice he can going into the season. It puts him in the best situation, come the regular season, to show that he's the future franchise QB of the team. Babying him doesn't do that.

I would make Dak play to send him a message that he is not the greatest thing since the light bulb. The Cowboys FO coddles the players way to much. It's supposed to be a ruff road for Dak and they can start by making him play. They have gotten use to the good life in Dallas, golfing partying etc etc. This is the time for working not fearing.

I highly doubt they're going to play many (if any) of the starters. Therefore, it's pointless to me to play Dak. Like I said in the other post, pointless reps are pointless.
